I don’t disagree. In fact he’ll be forced to run on that basis whether he likes to or not - he could issue detailed policies on the role of technology in the jobs market etc & people will ignore & just compare Trump’s 2020 with Obama’s 2015 and decide which they like more.

That‘s a different point Alon - there were plenty of voters who didn’t know what Trump stood for in October 2016. There are plenty who still don’t! Obama had more of a manifesto than Biden does yet. Tho Biden neither needs one nor arguably can he get one - he IS his record.

Biden has what Obama didn’t - a record in office. So he will necessarily run on the basis of taking the US back to 2015, not on promising to do new things.

Not quite the same - by then we knew Obama wanted to introduce universal healthcare, he’d repeatedly said he supported equal rights for LGBT & he said that apart from fighting AlQaeda, using troops should be a last resort.

Why would anyone, from any Iranian faction, believe any agreement is durable beyond a president’s term? Road to a sustainable deal runs through Riyadh & Tel Aviv, neither of which wants any deal with any regime. They want Iran knocked down (like Iraq) before it’s rehabilitated.
