It was a sad day when the World Taekwondo Federation voted to change its name to World Taekwondo, because people like me though pictures like this are supremely funny.

No, but when the politicians are taken out of the equation very often the institutions knock along pretty happily.

That is increasingly happening, and the BM is one of the most important institutions in making it happen.

This is a complete red herring that you’ve introduced here. Nothing that I’ve tweeted about this has anything to do with not trusting curators outside Europe.

Israel says it was following "standard operating procedures" when its snipers killed this 21-year-old Palestinian medic as she tended to the wounded at Gaza border protest. Time to change those procedures--and investigate the officials who set them.

It’s possible to argue that the Hellenophilia of that period incorporated an anti-Turkish racist element.

Let’s put it this way, if you want to find out about the implications of repatriating the Elgin marbles, will you turn to Mary Beard or David Davis?

Because it is a step towards breaking up an incredibly important and internationally valuable cultural institution. Not one person debating this today has been able to deny that the same logic and demand applies to many artefacts.

What do you think of the moral case for maintaining, for mankind, the collections in the great museums, rather than breaking them up?

Or not. The leap of imagination that is needed here is to great museums as major cultural mega-artefacts in themselves.

I wouldn’t worry about them missing out on Ancient Greek art and architecture. The question is what their museums can tell them about Britain, or Africa.

It’s an ignorant position based on an unfamiliarity with the arguments, and the contrary argument is the opposite of reactionary. Grumpy I’ll admit to.
