A contractor who was hired to expand a Buddhist temple in Taiwan wound up taking over the site, evicting the nuns and converting it into a shrine to the Chinese Communist Party

Part two of that is how Chiang spent the 60s-70s using that protection to plan an invasion of the mainland and our efforts to reign that in. At one point Taipei wanted to send troops to Vietnam but DC nixed that idea to keep Beijing from ramping up support to Hanoi.

Good article but it should really be titled “Beijing can’t take Taiwan” or something like that.

Small victory, but until more is done we’re the Dutch boy sticking fingers in a leaking dam.

Interesting. I wouldn’t put it past the mad mullahs to help daesh take credit for this to deflect from a brazen separatist attack.

On that we most definitely agree, the Kim dynasty is a hinderance on the Korean people. This issue I have with the Minjok term is purely on its hijacking.

Thank you General Mattis. The man is still in the trenches doing the dirty work.

Which is why a genuine embrace of those ideals would do wonders to the current dynamic and the korean people as a whole.

Shame, my grandad drove cross country in the 50s to see San Fran because he couldn’t see it after being unloaded from a hospital ship after being blown off a munitions PT in Guadalcanal. Cerebral swelling left him blind for a couple weeks.

The San Francisco Bay Area is heavily insulated from the US Military. Few bases, little military tradition, 4,000 KIA in Iraq before anyone from here was killed. Latter a particularly grim sign. The civil-military divide is the Grand Canyon here.

How do the people engage in “organic participatory democracy”? With a gun to their heads?

San Francisco’s Fleet Week is next week and the US Navy doesn’t have a single ship confirmed. A long way from the 80s, when we had 2 CVs, 1 BB, 1 LHA, and Spruances, Kidds, Perrys, Knoxes and Garcias all visiting at once. Don’t remember CG/Ns but must have been there. Ugh.
