FAQ
Do I need a license for JetBrains Toolbox App?
No. The Application is free of charge.
What if I already have some JetBrains tools installed?
In most cases JetBrains Toolbox App can detect these IDEs and work with them, without supporting certain features. However, if you decide to stay with JetBrains Toolbox App, we'd recommend uninstalling these previously installed tools and re-installing them through the Toolbox App.
Will it respect my IDE settings on install or upgrade?
Yes, it will.
Where are the IDEs located on my hard drive?
Default locations depend on the operating system:
- Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\Toolbox\apps - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/JetBrains/Toolbox/apps - Linux:
~/.local/share/JetBrains/Toolbox/apps
Where are the applications downloaded from?
All downloads are verified to come from downloads.jetbrains.com and https is used in all communication.
I like to tune some JVM options for IntelliJ IDEA launcher. Does Toolbox App provide a way to edit IDE configs?
Yes, it does. Click the metal nut icon on the right-hand side of the IDE whose configs you want to edit, and then select Settings.
What data does the Chrome Extension use?
The extension can only access the current page you are visiting and works exclusively with github.com. It needs this access in order to determine the structure of the project file.
What are the system requirements for Toolbox App?
- Windows: 64-bit Windows 7 or newer
- macOS: macOS Mavericks (10.9) or newer
- Linux: JetBrains Toolbox App is packaged in AppImage and requires FUSE to run. See AppImage Wiki for details.
Does JetBrains Toolbox App collect any usage statistics or call home?
The application itself does not track any data nor does it send any data. On the server-side, however, we do use a query string to detect download requests originating from the application.
Faster updates
When updating, Toolbox App downloads and applies a patch (or even a set of patches) instead of the full package download, thus saving you time & bandwidth.
GitHub integration
Toolbox App also offers a Google Chrome extension so you can check out GitHub projects and open them in your IDE in one click.
