Day 252 of Project 365: Analog vs. digital.

Image

I love my notebook, but on days like today I worry that my analog to-do list isn’t capable of handling everything I throw at it. Occasionally I flirt with a digital task manager …

And then I think of all of the ink I’d be missing out on.

Day 251 of Project 365: Stranger Things.

Image

FunkyPlaid and I watched the first two episodes of “Stranger Things” tonight. It is taking every shred of my adult willpower right now to go to bed instead of watching another.

Writing from: my study in Portland. Listening to: nothing, even though I really want to listen to the “Stranger Things” soundtrack. I don’t want to stumble across any spoilers!

Day 250 of Project 365: Me and my alien.

Image

Nearly twenty years ago she crash-landed on Earth. I couldn’t pronounce her alien name but “Tazendra” works all right. If I promise to fork over the food she begrudgingly allows me to cuddle her for a few minutes at a time. It’s a good arrangement.

Day 249 of Project 365: Mystic Vale.

Image

FunkyPlaid and I hosted our friends C & R for a wee Labor Day cookout. After we ate lots of grilled meats and veggies, we retired to the game room for a go at Mystic Vale, my new favorite game. Mystic Vale is similar to Dominion as it is a deck-building game, but it goes one step further and allows players to craft the individual cards in their deck as well. I found the mechanic ingenious and much easier to learn than I expected it to be.

This is a photo of the best card I crafted. I can’t wait to play again!

Day 248 of Project 365: Bittersweet nightshade.

Image

Work today was rather instructive: I researched a plant that grows outside the library which turned out to be Solanum dulcamara, also known as bittersweet nightshade. It isn’t as toxic as deadly nightshade, but still isn’t anything you want to be snacking on in a parking lot.

Pretty, though, isn’t it?

Writing from: my non-toxic study in Portland. Listening to: so much “Prison Break”. It’s over soon, and I’m glad; Season 4 consists mainly of gratuitous vengeance interspersed with structural engineering puzzles. Only not as exciting as I just described it.
