Today we announced a new, elevated, redesigned issuu reading experience. Any tech company will tell you that redesigns are really hard, and there were many reasons why we wanted to deliver a better way to read and discover issuu content from any device. One (massive) piece of inspiration kept the team focused over the course of this giant, company-wide effort — the diverse ecosystem of creative publishers of issuu.
With more than three million publishers across 30 million publications from all over the globe, issuu is the curator of creativity. These creators choose issuu because it’s the center of digital publishing creativity.
Along with introducing the new issuu to the world, we’re proud to highlight a few standout voices in the issuu ecosystem:
Upward Magazine
Upward Magazine is more than just your standard travel magazine. Bringing global content to the culture conscious globe trotter, Upward has turned into a small business that packs a punch. The young powerhouse team has gotten creative to serve their impassioned audience with authentic content they crave. And with their success, they’ve been able to grow their business exponentially along the way.
It’s hard to believe but ONE Magazine was started as a simple personal project by Nicole Gavrilles while still in school. Combining her two passions of fashion and design, Nicole was able to create a career around what she loves. More importantly, she’s been able to share it. ONE has grown to be a popular women’s wear magazine, surfacing new names and previously unheard of talent in every issue. ONE Magazine is bringing their fresh perspective on editorial fashion to broader audiences every day.
When Mindy Seegal Abovitz of Tom Tom Magazine couldn’t find media that addressed the struggles of being a female drummer in a male-dominated industry, she simply created her own. Now Tom Tom has grown to be more than just a rad feminist music mag — it’s a full-on business with show production and curation, giving female drummers the chance to shine outside the pages of Tom Tom.
Part of the Stella & Dot social selling empire, Keep Collective is a fast-growing phenomenon that empowers everyday women to take leading roles in this beautiful jewelry and keepsake business. Keep Collective is a billion-dollar brand in the making, which uses innovation in digital media to reach anyone who wants to take part in their story of empowerment and success.
Mohawk Fine Paper comes up with the perfect solution to show proof of product to their designer customers – a high- end, beautiful and innovative magazine printed on all their best paper. The magazine has now evolved into even more: it’s got a cult following and really pushes the boundaries of print publishing, so we’re thrilled to have them join the issuu family and apply the same innovative thinking to the digital space.
Norwegian chef, crafter, stylist and all-around creative mastermind, Paul Lowe, includes his unique take on DIY, homemade baked goods and photography in each issue of Sweet Paul Magazine. The “anti-Martha Stewarts” of the world love the simple steps and touching stories to go with each project, and have helped turn Paul’s passion project into a thriving Brooklyn-based business. With huge events, online content and copies of Sweet Paul being sold in stores like Anthropologie, the brand is growing exponentially into a massive movement of those who enjoy the “sweet” things in life.
From the musings of a couple of young creators to newsstands across the world, Atlas Magazine is proof that with some persistence, creativity and innovative thinking, anything is possible. Atlas is redefining the role of traditional media in the fashion industry with their home-grown approach to world wide success, providing the next generation of fashion creatives an opportunity and a platform to show their talents.

Paul: Haunted was born from a passion and a liking for ghosts, spooks and all things scary. I grew up reading Ghost Stories, loved reading about Harry Price, one of our most famous Ghost Hunters and loved watching spooky and scary films. I have always had a passion for writing and found that there was not really a magazine for paranormal lovers other than ones that were more science and knowledge based, aimed the people in the paranormal field rather than the general public. That is our aim, a magazine about the paranormal that is for ALL fans of the paranormal. The idea started around 2003, but it took 6 years for the first ever issue to be published in 2009. 7 years on and we’re still going strong.
issuu: Can you tell us about the After Dark publication and how it differs?
Paul: After Dark is a different kettle of fish, at first we mixed horror and paranormal in the same magazine but we soon realised that from a magazine perspective the images and design style were different, whilst Haunted Magazine was more about the writing style and the stories and the history and the mystery of ghosts and legends, horror was more graphic and gruesome, and there was enough of a fanbase out there for a separate magazine.
issuu: Is there anything special that your team does with the magazine for Halloween?
Paul: As you are probably aware we love Halloween, whilst we are busy with the magazines and the blogs and social media, we like to help promote the fantastic Scare attractions that are out there, and visit some if we can. We all have kids now so Halloween kind of takes a different shape as well now, last few years I have been trick or treating with the kids (YOU SHOULD SEE HOW MANY SWEETS THEY GET?) and then I end up Ghost Hunting with my friends. This year is particularly special we are doing a LIVE ghost hunt via Facebook at the most haunted house in the UK, 30 East Drive, apparently also home to Europe’s most violent Poltergeist, so that should be fun, in a scary kind of way. Obviously we love Halloween and it has actually been great to see it grow into the massive industry that it now is. It’s not just one night anymore, it is a whole month of crazy things that you can visit. It has gone mad.
issuu: Again, in the spirit of the season, what is the spookiest/most haunted feature your magazine has had?
Paul: That’s a good question, because all of our articles are kind of paranormal related, so we can pick from loads of articles and features that we have run in the past. We have featured articles on Witches, the most horrible ones that you can imagine, we have written about towns and cities and delved into their darker history, you’d be amazed at what dark and scary things are on your doorstep sometimes? We have featured some of the great paranormal people out there, Harry Price, Aleister Crowley, MR James, Bela Lugosi and Bram Stoker to name but five. We have written about scary locations, the history and mystery behind them. It really is difficult to choose one but if I had to it would be any features that are written about haunted locations, the dark history and mystery of them, the legends of old. I mean after all if it wasn’t for these wonderful locations for ghosts to haunt, where would they go? LOL
issuu: What other paranormal publications can you recommend?
Paul: There are some fantastic paranormal publications out there, and alot of them are from people like ourselves, independent publishers rather then the big corporate publishing companies. Supernatural Magazine is a good read, and Dragmag have done a really good paranormal special issue and Paranormal Underground really had some great articles. The beauty of being available as a digital magazine is that there’ll always be a copy available to read somewhere online. You only have to type words like “paranormal, ghost and horror” on Issuu and it reveals a whole host of magazines that people have probably never heard of, but are really very good.
issuu: What’s coming next that readers can look forward to?
Paul: We are coming back bigger and better than ever in 2017, we are not afraid to revamp and redesign every now and then, we like to move with the times. The paranormal is an ever changing world and it’s important for us as a magazine to move with the times. We are always looking to evolve and take the reader on a roller coaster ride through the paranormal, stopping at The Ghost Train of course. The magazine will always be a free digital magazine and will always be for lovers of the paranormal, we pride ourselves on quality features and quality design, it’s something that we’ve done ever since our first issue, we see the cover of our magazines as page one of the magazine. There is lots of paranormal stories that are not so well known but probably just as scary and exciting to read, whilst we will always write about the well known locations, we love writing about places that people might not know about. The paranormal will always be here and we are so proud to be a part of it.
You can read the latest Haunted Magazine (and all our back issues) via Issuu and you can watch the LIVE Facebook Ghost Hunt on their event page for their spooky Halloween event.
