AWS Elemental MediaConvert Pricing

With AWS Elemental MediaConvert, you can choose from on-demand pricing, reserved pricing, or a combination of the two, depending on your workload and video transcoding requirements.

  • On-Demand pricing: You pay only for what you use and there are no minimum fees. Charges are based on a simple fee per minute of video in each output. On-demand pricing has two tiers: Basic, which is lower cost and supports a limited set of features, and Professional, which supports the full set of features. No long-term commitments or upfront payments are needed.
     
  • Reserved pricing: Purchase one or more reserved transcode slots for a fixed monthly charge (additional fees for Dolby Audio and Audio Normalization usage minutes), with a minimum 12-month commitment. Each slot runs a single job at a time, with access to all available encoding features, and can process jobs continuously one after the other. See the documentation pages for more information.

On-Demand Pricing

On-demand pricing is ideal for customers who are building applications with short-term or unpredictable workloads requiring fast turnaround times and scalability, and for new applications or workflows being developed with AWS Elemental MediaConvert.

With on-demand pricing, you are charged per minute of video in each output, with rates that depend on the features that you use. The duration of each output is calculated in one second increments and then converted into fractional minutes to determine the total charge for the output. For example, an output with a duration of 45 seconds would be 45/60, or 0.75 of a minute. The minimum duration for billing is 10 seconds, so an output with a duration of less than 10 seconds will be billed for 10 seconds.

AWS Elemental MediaConvert offers two pricing tiers with on-demand pricing that differ based on the encoding capabilities each support. The first is the lower cost Basic tier, which is intended for simple web distribution use cases with AVC-only outputs. The second is the Professional tier, which supports a full suite of professional video processing features designed for broadcast and multiscreen delivery of high-quality outputs. Basic Tier

The Basic tier in on-demand pricing supports outputs with the AVC codec, single-pass encoding, and capabilities like clipping, stitching, and static overlays, among others. It is the best option for processing user-generated content or other short-form content that is primarily meant for distribution over the web. The per-minute rate offered under the Basic tier varies based on the resolution and frame rate of the output.

Professional Tier

The Professional tier in on-demand pricing supports a full suite of broadcast-grade capabilities including the MPEG-2, AVC, HEVC, and Apple ProRes codecs; dual-pass and high-quality encoding; a wide range of caption formats; digital rights management (DRM); ad signaling; advanced pre-processors; and multiple track audio processing. This tier is ideal for broadcast and multiscreen delivery of advanced output formats. The per-minute rate offered under the Professional tier varies based on the resolution, frame rate, quality setting, and codec of the output. The Professional tier also offers a number of optional add-on features including Dolby Audio and Audio Normalization, each available for an additional charge.

Resolutions for both the Basic and Professional tiers are defined as:
SD is an output of less than 720 vertical resolution.
HD is an output of greater than or equal to 720 vertical resolution, but less than or equal to 1080 vertical resolution.
UHD is an output of greater than 1080, up to and including 2160 vertical resolution.

Reserved Pricing

Reserved pricing is for customers that have predictable and consistent ongoing usage. It is ideal for workflows where encoding jobs are queued up and processed over time. With reserved pricing, there isn't a Basic or Professional tier division, as each purchased reserved transcoding slot supports the full suite of capabilities. Optional add-on features including Dolby Audio and Audio Normalization are available for an additional fee, and are billed per minute of output.

To use reserved pricing, you pay for reserved transcode slots, which are billed at a fixed monthly rate with a minimum 12-month commitment. You can purchase multiple slots using the console and apply them to your reserved queues. A simple calculator is also available in the console to provide an estimate of how many slots are required. You will need to first run a typical job using an on-demand queue, observe how long the job takes to complete, set a maximum desired turnaround time, and the calculator will estimate the number of reserved transcode slots required.

Additional Charges
