Great viz Spencer. I assume you are floating things and the bars on the left aren't in alignment with the bars on the right. Maybe it's the OCD kicking in.

Getting ready to kick off a 2-day Tableau Training . Any advice for these new Tableau users?

Ugh. Thanks for the catch Chris. It wasn't clear at all in the data, but now looking at the trend it seems obvious. I've updated the viz.

You can also do longer "bars", by changing the width and height.

Here's one cool preference file hack for Tableau that still works. Change the legend to a line using height and width. do you remember me working on these in the airport lounge? LOL

Dan, Thanks for the shout out. Here is an example that has a Google Map, Satellite and Streetview buttons, with an embedded map. Just click on a crime on the left side and it will pull up the image or streetview on the right side.

Be sure to follow Bethany. I have no idea what she'll be doing on Twitter, but whatever it is, it will be awesome. And check out her talk "Ready, set, action!" on YouTube.

Looking at the XML, it doesn't look like it's converting to a manual sort. It appears to be holding the original sort prior to the table calc.

Interesting behavior. You can use amount, create the Nested Sorting and then convert to Percent of Total, but it doesn't appear you can create the Nested Sort after converting to Percent of Total.

I can see that approach work in some cases, but 1.) not everyone is on Twitter. 2) Twitter is probably not the best platform for a good critique. And I can just imagine "Dear Fox News, would you be open to some feedback on your visualization?" [crickets]

The "screaming cat" is an icon in the Big Book of Dashboards that we use to identify a visualization that we don't think works. We did this so that people flipping through the book for inspiration, in any given chapter/scenario, would know the bad examples from the good.
