    Great guy, awesome achievement

    40 years today I started at BBC News working in the Stills Library. I’ll be back at Television Centre, the building I call ‘home’, later today for a coffee and to reflect on my career. But below is the first and only contract I’ve ever signed. What a great starting salary!!

    All the resources in this thread are good. I went to a comprehensive & didn’t go to Oxbridge. I’ve done ok at the BBC for the last 34 years. My advice: all wannabe journalists need an education, but don’t worry if it isn’t public school/Oxbridge. Ignore the myths.

    As the “why are journalists so posh” twitter war rages into its 94th year, here are some great resources for anyone considering a career in journalism but worried about making ends meet. Do pass them on to employers, too.

    Happy to help the Trust established in memory of my good pal Rory. We became friends working together during the 1991 Gulf War in Baghdad, then in Kabul in 1992 when the city fell to the Mujahideen. He was killed in 93 during the attempted coup in Moscow.
