DVDFab HD Decrypter RECENTLY UPDATED |
BluFab/DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab "DVD to DVD" and DVDFab "Blu-ray to Blu-ray". It copies entire DVD/Blu-ray movie to hard drive, and removes all the DVD protections (CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) and part of Blu-ray protections while copying. NOTE! The decryption, DVD to HDD and Blu-ray to HDD, is FREE, if you want more features then it's a trialware. And it may take 1-6 months until it supports NEW DVD/Blu-ray releases. And click on TRY even if it says that the trial has expired.

I've used an older version (free) for DVDs, haven't updated for a long time. Decided to try it on the Win 7 laptop I use for video stuff. Looks like it just did the main movie, which is OK for a free version. I was annoyed that it needs to connect to the internet in order to work since I don't have the laptop connected normally. (I have to run a cable temporarily) I think MakeMKV serves me better right now.

In the current version (9_), the updated version, a splash screen shows everything that has been purchased or available for trial. HD Decrypter shows as "never expire". The product links are just links to the website...can't really blame them for trying to promote their product, can you? If you missed it like I did at first, click the X in top-right corner to close the splash and continue. It isn't clear, but HD Decrypter is only available for the "Copy" > "Full Disk" function. You want the "Copy" tab. It should be selected by default. Click "+Add" and select the DVD drive. Below "Copy Mode" you should see "Full Disk". If not, click the big icon/image just below "+ADD" and above "Advanced Settings" (which is greyed out for me). Select your destination path using "Save to". I suggest creating a folder like "DVDFab-out". Then I rip (compress) to a different folder on a 2nd drive using Handbrake. When I first started using the software (v6) it was somewhat expensive ~$100, but it got rave reviews and was considered by many to be well worth the cost. There really is no competition, so if you rip a lot and want to rip and convert in one step (time being $$ and all that), it may be worth it. My biggest problem is all the damn versions now.

Don't update if you have the old ripping version that removes AACS because it won't work anymore. Bought the lifetime version a yr. or so ago of Bluray Copy, when they switched to the non-rip version they told me by email that they would continue to support the lifetime version that ripped AACS, just wouldn't sell new subscriptions. When I updated after getting a message that there was an update, I lost the ability to rip AACS. I contacted them and told them that they said they would continue to support lifetime users and their answer was to refer me to a FAQ page that told me to buy AnyDVDHD. So I ended up paying for their over-priced software (DVDFABHD) and now it is worthless to me. Don't buy this software.

Tried version 9.1.4 no longer decrypts movies with AACS. Pretty much useless to me now.

I have not tried 9.1.4, but 9.1.3.8 worked fine with The Book Theif for me.

Just updated to the latest version on my file server and it refuse to rip Mandela Long Walk to Freedom, telling me i had to instead by their product if i wished to continue. An had older version on my media server, 9.1.2.8, that ripped the movie without issue. So appears that the ripper is no longer free or has been reduced to a trial copy. I don't mind paying for the software but all i need is a ripper and i no longer see an option to purchase passkey they are only offering up passkey lite. I don't mind supporting their efforts as they have a great product it just ticks me off that they crippled their software with out mentioning something in the upgrade notes.

I used previous versions and they worked fine. This version does nothing but crash. I cannot get it to work at all.

Chowmein, the reason for the two branches is because DVDFab did a very big overhaul of the product. The UI and underlying code changes are significant. The older version 8 branch is bug-fixed as needed and newer protections support is added as needed. The newer version 9 branch is effectively a work-in-progress with MANY MANY bug-fixes occurring in each update. So, version 8 is more stable and version 9 is newer, shinier, and more buggy.

Why are there 2 active development streams, versions 8 & 9? What's the point of that?

The UI is such as bad that I've not found how to make an unencrypted mirror of my DVD on my hard drive... Useless.

Source Code, Blu-Ray, Garbage Files/Fake Play List: still not detecting the real file. There are 53 titles that contain the movie. So far I only experimented with 3 titles that contain garbage files.

Nice tool that offers DVD to HDD and Blu-ray to HDD decryption for FREE! Worked on all mot all, except one or two recent. Worth considering buying and adding into tool-box. As worked for the features stated, scored 10 out of 10

Problem with play back after ripping The Grudge. I seen this before way back in the day when The Grudge came out on DVD, after ripping it and burning it back onto a DVD the first half hour or 45 minutes is a solid black screen. I used DVD Fab 4 back in the day to RIP The Grudge and now I can't find Fab 4,5,6 & 7 which is capable to RIP The Grudge without any problems. I have DVDFAB 7 burned onto a CD which now I have to go digging around for and put that back onto the computer. Older versions of FAB should still be available and I don't know why video help does not make them available....I really need Fab 5 because that particular version was better for ripping DVD's with scratches.

Yes, clearly I was talking about the full (pay) version. For the free version, of course the value should be 10. Sorry for that confusion. What I say about the pay version still stands though.

I believe he posted in the wrong section and was talking about DVDFab paid version, but anyways that seems a little harsh. Both DVDFab and AnyDVD are great products and are the best at what they do. Simple as that.

It works OK but is way overpriced. If you pay for bluray, don't expect anything but the basic free DVD with it. You have to pay extra for every single feature. Much better off with AnyDVDHD and the free Imgburn. I have both (and paid for them) and just about never use DVDFab.

Previous poster's comment about being unable to find how to rip to HD seems inaccurate: It's right there where it's been for ages.

Still the best & updated ripping program for the money!! I'm not sure what docbill is talking about seeing as i just installed it on a fresh XP install on a new machine and it rips fine in the free mode. Right there in the main window, the big blue START button.

In the past, I've always like DVDFab free ripping the DVD to hard drive. However, with version 8 either that feature is no-longer there, or it is impossible to find in the menu. I give-up. Time to find another ripping program.

Just a note with regards to previous poster, Bill C-32 (the Canadian version of the DMCA) is not yet law, so DVD Fab HD Decrypter (and other similar programs)are NOT illegal here at this time.

DVD Fab 8.0.0.5 causes audio/video out of sync with most recent new released movie"Twilight New Moon" also with hundreds of older movies like; The Net, The Uninvited, The Wicker Man, National Treasure, Doomsday and to many others to mention. Also has incorrect media scanning with: The Sentinel, The Hunted, Four Brothers. These DVD movies scan in only being around 234MB in size and about 10 min long. DVD FAB is better off still being free or discountinued if their expecting to be paid. Plus also in Canada this program is now Illegal.
