concentration in St. John's School of

- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Divinity School Address
(1838). [56K text, 14K graphics]. Also known as Address Delivered before
the Senior Class in Divinity College. Transcendentalism.
- Thomas Jefferson, The Jefferson
Bible: The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth Extracted Textually
from the Gospels. Deism. This is Jefferson's cut-and-paste
version of the Gospels.
- Justin Martyr (d. c. 165), Dialogue with
Trypho. Discusses, among other things, whether Jews can be saved. [444K
text, 1K graphics].
- The Mayflower Compact (1620)
- The
Mayflower Compact. Caleb Johnson presents "a very careful
letter-for-letter and line-by-line transcription . . .
of the Mayflower Compact, as it is found in the original
page of William Bradford's History Of Plymouth
Plantation . . . , as best as can be
represented by modern-day computer characters." Johnson, who has
a B.A. in history, also provides background information.

56K graphics]. Maybe not the directory, but a good
directory. Links to episcopal conferences, papal documents, and more,
in Spanish.
- Fred Jehle, Antología de
poesía española. Includes poems by Teresa of
Ávila, Fray Luis de León, John of the
Cross, and Sor Juana. In Spanish and English. Jehle is an associate
professor of Spanish at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort
Wayne.
- San Juan
de la Cruz, Doctor de la Iglesia. In Spanish. Includes the
Dark Night, John's poetry, and some minor works. Also
two short biographies.
- Sor Juana
Inés de la Cruz. Sor Juana (1651-1695) was called "the
tenth muse." Biographical essay in English, links to more
resources on Sor Juana, in Spanish.

Spanish. Electronic journal. Requires JavaScript; does not work at
all in Netscape 3. Search function does not work in Netscape 4.

- Obras de
Santa Teresa de Jesús. Critical Spanish edition, edited by
noted Teresian scholar Tomás Álvarez. In PDF. Lacks
poetry, Constitutions, and El modo de visitar los

Teresa de Jesús. In Spanish. Almost complete
works. Excludes poetry, Constitutions, and letters.
- Pedro Trigo, Fuentes escritas del
cristianismo latinoamericano (1995).
- Paul G. Zink, La Iglesia que habla y reza
en castellano. Directory of Spanish-language Catholic sites, in

- Abbaye Saint Benoît de Port-Valais, Bibliothèque.
French-language site, with the opera omnia of John
Chrysostom, Augustine, and Bernard of Clairvaux, as well as Gregory's
life of Benedict from the Dialogues, and works on

- All Catholic
Church Ecumenical Councils--All the Decrees. Uneven formatting.
Some are in outline form; others have emphasis inserted by persons
unknown.
- Biographisch-Bibliographisches
Kirchenlexikon. Biographical dictionary in German. Search or
browse. A very impressive cooperative effort. The simple design
means that pages load quickly.
- The Catholic
Encyclopedia (1913). Full text of all articles. If you wish, you
may read my review
of the online Catholic Encyclopedia.
- Christian Classics Ethereal
Library. Collection of the greats in Christian theology,
spirituality, hymnody, and fiction. Also reference materials for
Bible study. All in the public domain. Alternate formats are
available for many of the texts, although recent additions are
unfortunately Microsoft-centric and demand the very latest
software.
- The Coptic
Network (Copt-Net). Encyclopedia Coptica. Archive of prayers,
hymns, images, sound files, essays related to the Coptic Orthodox
Church. Also has links to other sites, by topic.
- Cuadernos
de Cristianisme i Justícia. Articles on social justice.
Available in Spanish and Catalan, and a very few in English. [50K
text, 24K graphics].
- Diocese of Saint
Cloud, Minnesota. Information on the local Catholic diocese and
its ministries. Somewhat hostile to text browsers, and too wide for
smaller monitors.
- Diotima: Women &
Gender in the Ancient World.
- Duke Papyrus
Archive. [8K text, 67K graphics]. Searchable collection of
papyri written in Demotic, Hieratic, Greek, Latin, Coptic, etc.
- Early Church Fathers. Comprises three important series: the
Ante-Nicene Fathers; and A Select Library of Nicene
and Post-Nicene Fathers of the Christian Church, first and
second series. Now available in two HTML versions. The first version
of Early Church Fathers is
"paged," i.e., split into smaller files. Twenty-seven of the
thirty-eight volumes have been completed; most lack prefaces and
notes. In the Early Church
Fathers, version 2.0, footnotes are included, but file sizes are
considerably larger--often over 150K. All but Ante-Nicene
Fathers volume 9 (an index) are available in version 2.0.
- Encyclopedia Mythica. Not
especially scholarly, and treats all religion as mythology.
Nevertheless, can be used for a quick introduction or refresher on
various deities, ancient religion, or folklore of any era.
- The Fathers of the
Church. New Advent. Some need proofreading. An alternate
arrangement for some of the works included in Early Church
Fathers.
- The Gnostic Society
Library. Mysticism of all sorts, Gnosticism, and a collection of
anti-heretical texts.
- Greater Minneapolis Council of
Churches. [10K text, 104K graphics]. Ecumenical, with over 700
member congregations. File sizes of graphics are much larger than
necessary.
- Paul Halsall
- The Holy See. The Vatican's
official web site. Has been steadily adding content. Documents of
Vatican II, and of recent popes. Also, hagiographies of new saints
and beati. Hostile to text browsers and speaking browsers.
- Thomas Hopko, The
Orthodox Faith (1981). Also known as the "Rainbow Books." Primer
on the belief and practice of the Eastern Orthodox. Hopko is the dean emeritus
of St. Vladimir's Seminary. [25K text, 95K graphics].
- Internet Dictionary
Project. Translation between English and: Spanish, Italian,
German, French, Latin, Portuguese, Assyrian.
- Alister McGrath, Glossary
of Theological Terms. [55K text, 5K graphics].
- Ministry
Resources. From the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South
America. Sermons, icon gallery, prayers, audio files of liturgical
music. [38K text, 94K graphics].
- Minnesota Council of
Nonprofits.
- Minnesota Theological
Library Association. Libraries of the five members of the Minnesota Consortium of Theological
Schools. Links to online catalogs.
- Papal Encyclicals
Online. Includes papal documents other than encyclicals, too.
Most documents are not readable in Netscape.
- Religion News

- Religion Online.
Archive of articles and some full-text books in the areas of religious
studies and Christian theology. Mostly mainstream Protestant
perspective, including some of the "big names" in theology,
apologetics, ethics.
- Tracey Rich, Glossary
of Jewish Terminology. [91K text, 13K graphics]. Part of Judaism 101.
- The St.
Pachomius Library. Especially good for translations of early
Greek and Syriac texts.
- United States Conference of
Catholic Bishops. Does have the New American Bible and the
Catechism of the Catholic Church online, along with some press
releases. If you are looking for documents, though, you won't find
them here.
Online theology-related periodicals
- Allan R. Andrews, Religion Journalism
on the WWW. It can be difficult to find religious news because
many media outlets have no religion reporter, and relegate religion to
occasional "lifestyle" features. This directory gives tips on
where to find religious news on the Web. There is also a very helpful
page listing links to denominational news agencies.
- Catholic Information Network
(CIN). [96K text, 35K graphics]. Navigation is JavaScript-dependent.
Labyrinthine. Features some mailing lists that may be
of interest.
- CrossSearch. Largely
evangelical directory, with search engine.
- Gerald Darring, Theology Library.
[10K text, 48K graphics]. Subject-oriented directory. A personal
page about the Catholic Church. Darring teaches religion at a
Catholic high school.
- The ECOLE
Initiative. ECOLE stands for Early
Church On-Line
Encyclopedia. Most useful section is
"Documents," a directory of online Jewish, Christian, and
Islamic documents from the New Testament era until the
Reformation.
- Faith Based Political
Resources. Links to online justice and peace organizations.
- Michael Fraser, Computer-Assisted
Theology: Internet Resources. [87K text, 3K graphics]. Annotated
directory.
- Alan Godlas, Islamic
Studies, Arabic, and Religion Page. Dr. Godlas teaches
Islamic studies at the University of Georgia.
- Paul Halsall, Byzantium: The
Byzantine Studies Page. [22K text, 52K graphics]. Extensive. A
collection of texts, plus links to resources for related areas of
study.
- Charles E. Jones, ABZU.
Resources for study of the ancient Near East. Primarily, but not
exclusively, of interest to Scripture scholars. Jones is the Research
Archivist-Bibliographer for the Oriental Institute.

- Bradley Lehman, Mennonite
Connections on the World-Wide Web. [53K text, 6K graphics].
- Maven. [4K text, 49K
graphics]. Jewish and Israel-related links.
- Enric Ribas, Links
católicos Mn.. Very good Internet directory. Ribas has
mined WWW sites, especially those of religious orders, for Catholic
links in Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, Italian, Latin, and
English.
- Stefan Rohrbacher, Academic Jewish Studies
Internet Directory. Maintained by Dr. Rohrbacher, professor
of Jewish Studies at the University of Duisberg, Germany, as part of
the WWW Virtual Library. Tends toward the institutional (libraries
and archives, degree programs). Also includes links to journals,
scholarly societies, e-mail discussion groups, and searchable text
databases.
- The St. Shenouda
the Archimandrite Coptic Society. Egyptian, Coptic, and Orthodox
links.
- Andrew Tannenbaum's Judaism and Jewish
Resources. [86K text, 10K graphic].
- Universität
Passau - Katholisch Theologische Fakultät. In German. Links
