Welcome my official website! I am Dr. Brant Pitre, Professor of Sacred Scripture at Notre Dame Seminary, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and I received my Ph.D. in New Testament and ancient Judaism from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. Since then I have spent my time teaching, writing, and giving lectures on the Bible and on the Jewish roots of Christianity. I am the author of Jesus, the Tribulation, and the End of the Exile (Baker Academic, 2005), Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist (Doubleday, 2011), Jesus the Bridegroom: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told (Image, 2014), Jesus and the Last Supper (Eerdmans, 2015), and The Case for Jesus (Image, 2016). Additionally, I am the author of several CD and DVD Bible Studies, exploring the Jewish roots of Scripture and the Catholic Faith.
This site has been established for anyone interested in the study of the Bible, the “Sacred Page” (sacra pagina). As the Second Vatican Council taught, the study of Sacred Scripture “should be the very soul of sacred theology.” And, as St. Jerome taught, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” Hence, the mission of this website is simple: to provide a place for all those who want to “put out into the deep” in the study of Sacred Scripture and Sacred Theology. I engage in this study from a deeply Catholic perspective, but gladly welcome all who are interested in the study of the Bible.
In the days and weeks to come, I will use this site to provide links to interesting articles and books, all my favorite works of biblical theology, and, last but not least, my own audio and video Bible Studies and books. In particular, my CD & DVD Bible studies are now available from www.CatholicProductions.com.
I am also posting this site for anyone who may be interested in having me come to speak at a parish or conference about the Bible and Theology. If you would like to book me for an event, you can contact Catholic Productions directly for arrangements. In the meantime, many blessings be upon you and your families, and I exhort you, as the Church exhorts us all, to always strive to “‘learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ’ by frequent reading of the Scriptures” (Dei Verbum 25).
