Prisoners in Australia Number of prisoners continues to rise For the fifth consecutive year, the number of people in Australia’s prisons has increased. On the night of 30 of June 2016, there were 38,845 prisoners, up 8 per cent from the same time in 2015. The unsentenced prisoner population now accounts for one third of all prisoners, rising from one in five a decade ago.
Water Account, Australia Using less water Australian water consumption was 17,375 gigalitres in 2014-15, the equivalent of almost 35 Sydney Harbours. This was down 7 per cent from 2013-14. The largest decrease in water consumption was from the agriculture industry. Its consumption was down 10 per cent to 10,410 gigalitres.
