New stories and experiences at the Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo which, extend their cultural proposals for tourists with the launch of new itineraries, tours and original solutions in terms of mobility. Pride of place among these new proposals must however be reserved for the extraordinary activation of the Vatican-Castel Gandolfo-Albano Laziale railway line, offering a unique and evocative journey from the historic Station of the world's smallest State to the discovery of a priceless artistic, botanical and architectural treasure.

The Vatican Museums are organising the "Second Vatican Coffin Conference" in the context of the Vatican Coffin Project. From 6 to 9 June 2017 international scholars of note will deliver papers on different topics concerning Egyptian decorated wooden coffins.
Sessions will also be dedicated to discussion of the results of the analyses applied to the study of coffins. The technique is, in fact, part of a wider context, which naturally implies other artefacts, a certain environment, a social and economic context, a particular moment in history, an ideology, and a certain level of progress.

We have your heart at heart!
18 defibrillators installed and more than 300 guards trained in first aid

In a place of emotion, wonder and participation such as the Vatican Museums, there is no lack of attention for the care and safety of visitors due to the development of a cardio-protection programme along the entire museum itinerary. Thanks to an innovative training project managed by the Vatican Directorate of Health and Hygiene, in collaboration with the Bambin Gesù Paediatric Hospital, the members of the Guard Corps will keep watch not only over the works of art but also the visitors, should they find themselves in need of first aid treatment with the use of a defibrillator. An alliance between culture, technology and safety for a serene and protected tour experience.

Video art makes an entry in the Pope's Museums
A room entirely devoted to Studio Azzurro

The Vatican Museums Collection of Contemporary Art is enriched by a new work: In the beginning (and then), an interactive video installation in four parts designed and realised in 2013 by the historic Milan group Studio Azzurro, which has always guided its research towards a socialising use of interactivity. The inauguration on 28 September of the permanent installation of the work – better defined as a "sensitive environment" – in the heart of the itinerary through the Museums, is certainly also a symbolic event that recalls the equally significant first participation of the Holy See in the Venice International Biennale Art Exhibition 2013, where Studio Azzurro, with In the beginning (and then), gave tangible form to the founding moment of the biblical narrative of the Creation of the universe and of man.
