After almost 2 years of hard work, the Libav community is happy to announce that version 12.0 has been released!

As this is an even-numbered release, please be aware that while care has been taken to keep it as minimal as possible, this release may break ABI and API for our users and so will most likely require applications to be recompiled.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all the efforts of our developers, contributors, testers, and the libav.org infrastructure team, without which this release would not be possible.

Today we are proudly releasing libav 11.8.

This is the 7th bugfix release for the major release 11.

For a detailed list of changes, please have a look at the Changelog for 11.8.

In the meantime, we also updated the version 9 branch and released 9.20. See the changelog for it here.

We encourage distributors and system integrators to update, and share their patches against our release branches.
