Annie and Emma volunteer at World Humanist Congress 2014
Be a friend to international Humanism, by donating your talents!
IHEU is dedicated to building the worldwide humanist community, to networking our Member Organizations together, and to advancing our policy agenda at the international and regional levels.
We have a small staff team managing key work areas and coordinating activities between national and local Member Organizations, and we are very grateful to the various volunteers who contribute to our work.
There are several volunteer opportunities currently available with IHEU, all can be worked remotely (online) from anywhere in the world and no previous experience in the organized humanist movement is necessary.
Country Researchers (Freedom of Thought report)
The Freedom of Thought report surveys discrimination against the non-religious around the world. You can read about the project on the dedicated website at freethoughtreport.com.
Could you help to update and edit the upcoming 2016 edition of the report? You will work closely with the Editor to research the legal situation, social discrimination, and individual cases, for each national entry in the report. Some skills and experience in writing, research, or policy work would be beneficial.
Volunteers for this project can work remotely from anywhere in the world. Some use of email and online documents will be required.
Apply: To apply as a volunteer researcher please complete this online application form.
We are also looking for volunteers to help migrate the Report online. If you have some time (and patience!) to help with the job of moving and formatting our research into a new, page-per-country website, please email [email protected]. You should have some familiarity and confidence using web-based content systems, but all necessary training will be given.
Translation
We are looking for people to help us translate IHEU material and stories. We are looking for individuals who can translate from English into other UN languages. We are particularly interested in Spanish and Portuguese (leading up to the 2017 World Humanist Congress in Sao Paulo).
We will also be producing development materials and resource packs for new groups, and we want these also to be translated. We are committed to translating the Oxford, Amsterdam and Oslo Declarations into all UN languages, and making these available on our website.
If you can help on an ad hoc or ongoing basis please email [email protected] with your stated languages and any experience in translation.
Designer (Annual Report)
IHEU will be producing an Annual Report, to be presented at the General Assembly in Malta, and subsequently downloadable from our website. It is important that our Member Organizations and the wider public are fully informed of our work and our successes. Such an Annual Report does not have to be overly glossy, but needs good layout and design, and we would benefit from the support of someone with desktop publishing experience. If you could commit to a project last some months working closely with the CEO please email [email protected] in the first instance.
Designer (New and developing members’ guidance)
We’re working with some of our most recent and some of our most well-established IHEU Member Organizations to develop resources and guidance for newer groups.
The text, provisionally entitled “Ready, Aim, Connect : Founding and Developing Your IHEU Member Organization”, is already being developed with input from humanists on every continent (except Antarctica!).
We’d like to present the guidance in a clear, accessible and useful way for our Members everywhere. Could you use desktop publishing software to help design the digital documents, and so play your part in kickstarting some of the newest Humanist groups.
Apply: If you have the time and the skills please email [email protected] with the subject line “Design volunteer” in the first instance.
