| Random Cryptocoin |

Reddcoin (RDD) is a decentralised open-source cryptocurrency forked from Litecoin in early 2014, but it was re-based on Bitcoin in August 2016. It is dedicated to tipping on social networks as a way of bringing cryptocurrency awareness and experience to the general public. Original announcement.
| | Did You Know? | Like any software, Bitcoin too is subject to security flaws unwittingly introduced by the project's developers. The first (and so far the last) serious vulnerability was discovered in August 2010. A transaction verification bug in the Bitcoin protocol allowed users to bypass the cryptocurrency's coin-generation restrictions and create an indefinite number of bitcoins. The vulnerability was exploited on August 15 when over 184 billion bitcoins were generated in a transaction and sent to two addresses on the network. The problem was dealt with promptly - within hours, the bug was fixed, the transaction erased and the network forked to an updated version of the Bitcoin protocol. This was the only major security flaw found and exploited in Bitcoin's history.

NEW • Cryptocurrency Release: Sia (SC) 1.0.4 |

29 satoshi
|
Luke Champine has announced the release of Sia (SC) 1.0.4, a new version of the decentralised storage platform where users contribute disk storage in exchange for siacoins. This is the project's first long-term support (LTS) release: "This is the first LTS release of Sia. Please read our LTS page describing how LTS releases of Sia will work. Essentially, Nebulous will backport security fixes and other important bug fixes to the LTS release. This gives developers a stable foundation to build upon. The changes since v1.0.3 are negligible. The main function of this release is to split the LTS release line from the standard release line. This primarily affects the siac update command - if you run an LTS release, siac update will only update to later LTS releases, not standard releases. Conversely, if you run a standard release, siac update will never update to an LTS release, only standard releases." Here are the brief release notes. Download: Sia-UI-v1.0.4-lts-linux-x64.zip (50.4MB, signature), Sia-UI-v1.0.4-lts-osx-x64.zip (125MB, signature), Sia-UI-v1.0.4-lts-win32-x64.zip (60.4MB, signature). NuBits developer "sigmike" has announced the release of NuBits (NBT) Nu Client 3.0.0, a major update of the project's a proof-of-stake (PoS) cryptocurrency that is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of 1:1. This release updates the PoS protocol to version 3 and adds three new currencies: "I uploaded Nu version 3.0.0 to the repository. A new protocol version 3 was added. NEW • Cryptocurrency Release: Zcash (ZEC) 1.0.0 |

0.077 BTC
|
Zcash (ZEC) has launched! The proof-of-work (Equihash) cryptocurrency project whose primary goal is to assure the privacy and anonymity of transactions, has released the genesis block (the first block of transactions recorded in the blockchain). Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox made the announcement of the project's blog: "The Zcash blockchain is live! We released the genesis block today, and people all around our planet have begun mining and transacting on it. Our homepage links to a download page where you can find instructions on installing the Zcash software; an explainer video will be posted there shortly. If you feel confident using this kind of Linux command-line tool, then dive in! The more people who do so the better." At this early stage in the life of Zcash, there are no easy-to-use graphical wallets, only command-line clients available for Linux only. The developers have released a DEB package for Debian "Jessie"; users running other Linux distributions will need to compile their own client (instructions here). The source code is available from GitHub: v1.0.0.tar.gz (6.95MB). The new cryptocurrency seems to be in very high demand at this early stage of mining and is currently trading at around 25 BTC for 1 ZEC (or more than 17,000 USD for 1 Zcash unit). |

NEW • Cryptocurrency Release: Bitcoin (BTC) 0.13.1 |

764 USD |
Bitcoin (BTC) Core 0.13.1 has been released. Although presented as a "minor" update, this version brings the possibility to activate the much talked-about "segwit" soft fork: "Bitcoin Core version 0.13.1 released. This is a new minor version release, including activation parameters for the segwit softfork, various bug fixes and performance improvements, as well as updated translations. Segregated witness (segwit) is a soft fork that, if activated, will allow transaction-producing software to separate (segregate) transaction signatures (witnesses) from the part of the data in a transaction that is covered by the txid. This provides several immediate benefits: elimination of unwanted transaction malleability; capacity increase; weighting data based on how it affects node performance; signature covers value; linear scaling of sighash operations...." |
Luke Champine has announced the release of Sia (SC) 1.0.3, a new version of the project's decentralised storage platform where users contribute disk storage from their computers and earn siacoins, tokens that can be saved or exchanged for bitcoins on popular exchanges. From the release notes: "Sia 1.0.3. This is a patch release that improves the stability and performance of the renter, in addition to many other minor bug fixes and miscellaneous tweaks. Our goal for this release was to make Sia viable for real-world use, even if only on a small scale. Only time will tell if we achieved that goal, but we are optimistic. Much of the work that went into this release was aided by our new testing framework, the Ant Farm. Our next targeted release is v1.1.0, which will introduce some long-awaited features (such as instant wallet unlocking) as well as considerable performance upgrades for the renter and host." Sia's software clients are available in Sia (command line) or Sia-UI (graphical) variants; download from GitHub: Sia-UI-v1.0.3-linux-x64.zip (51.3MB, signature), Sia-UI-v1.0.3-osx-x64.zip (126MB, signature), Sia-UI-v1.0.3-win32-x64.zip (61.4MB, signature). The source code is also ready: v1.0.3.tar.gz (2.05MB). |
