TP-Link's super-fast Talon router is now available

TP-Link unveiled its Talon AD7200 router at CES this year, marketing it as the first router to include Qualcomm's 802.11ad technology, which rides in the frequency of 60GHz and can reach speeds up to 4600 Mbps. Known as WiGig, 802.11ad is designed to bring its high speeds to a specific room, likely where you're streaming or gaming. TP-Link says its $350 router allows for the downloading of an HD movie in 14 seconds and a feature-length 4K video in about four minutes. Acer has already included the technology in its TravelMate P648 laptop, too.

And yes, while 4600 Mbps is an impressive speed, it doesn't reach very far. WiGig's low range requires it to be paired with 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which provides the Wi-Fi speeds you're used to. Because of that limitation, TP-Link incorporated the older technology into Talon, meaning the router can also provide 2.4 GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi with a speed of up to 1733 Mbps.
