    Simple Ecommerce Platform

Which way would be the easiest/fastest way to design a simple ecommerce platform. It will start out with only 5 products and products will need added at certain points.

    1. Design it from scratch. I've done this before, but it was a decent amount of work. I'm fine with that, but this is for a client and they do not want to pay a large amount.

    2. Should I set them up with some sort of ecommerce platform? Which one would best for the simplicity of this and open source.

    Other suggestions are fine. Thanks.

I think the answer depends on the credit card merchant.
If they have a secure website (SSL/HTTPS), using Stripe is really easy.
Other CC merchants, like Authorize.net takes more scripting.

This would be a new design. I have worked with Authorize.net before and liked it for the most part. However, the way I configured it the transaction would authorize it before sending the payment and then it would authorize the payment when I sent it. I didn't like that.

Are there any ecommerce platforms that makes all of this really easy that I could set them up and allow them to do more advanced things for an acceptable monthly fee?

The easiest is to use content management system like Wordpress and install Woocommerce plugin to make an ecommerce website.

What type of product are they selling, is it a physical product or a digital product or a mix of both.

The type of product can have an impact on the platform that you will use for the customer. There are many eCommerce platforms that support both types of products but I can tell you first hand if it is a digital product that required more than one file for the download, the applications can become somewhat limited. I sell training courses online and some of those can have over 10 files that make up the download. I ended up writing my own application for the first few years, but I have found a few now that support multiple downloads.

WooCommerce is a good one, but you will have to have WordPress installed in order to set it up. That can mean a lot of overhead for the site.
