Flash was replaced by the HTML 5 <video> and <audio> tags

I activated the Shockwave Flash plugin and it still doesn't work. This is really strange; but it is a jpg that is not displaying. It displays in IE but not in Firefox and Chrome.

It occurred to me that possibly the thread should have been posted under HTML and not under Flash.

Is there anything unusual about how that image is displayed? Is the file http://jaxpubliclibrary.org/pics/AMC/GN15.jpg a simple jpeg file, or is it a script that spits out a jpeg? I ask because that file is being served as "text/html" as opposed to "img/jpeg" which is what it should be.

Actually, the thread could fall under either forum. We don't allow the same thread to be posted in two different forums, hence the reason for closing the other thread. If you (or another forum member) feel that a thread is in the wrong forum, please use the Report Post function (triangle icon at the bottom of every post) and request that the thread be moved.

I will not give up Firefox but would love to see Flash go .What is extraordinarily frustrating is that even with content blocked and Flash not loading the browser still freezes between tabs.

Chrome is now giving messages on pages with Flash that it is about to drop support.
Soon there will not be any browser that allows flash.Stephen

Adobe's software has been prone to exploit for years, this isn't new news. Any script-kiddie can exploit flash. Don't use it!

Thats not true at all soluck90.
Of course since HTML5 Flash seems to be obsolete.
But, and thats still the truth, HTML5 still in its infancy. Not even all browsers supports all of it. Some support this, other support others. Some browsers do not support HTML5 at all. And i,m not talking about old IE.
Remember. If apple not have started with not supporting Flash for mobile devices, flash would still be a big toppic. But than, everyone could make Apps without Apple app store.
My advice. Use both and use only HTML5 for mobile devices.

Blocking Flash is making Mozilla Firefox faster. Firefox does not correctly support html5 videos, so until that changes, the flash player is required.

And a growing number do not support Flash at all.
Google have advised that they are about to drop support for it in Chrome.
With most mobile devices never having supported Flash, Firefox having already dropped support and Chrome about to do so there will soon be better support for HTML 5 than there is for Flash.
Anyway Firefox does correctly support HTML 5 video so it doesn't need Flash.
Note that the different browsers have implemented what they support for the video tag differently so two or three different formats are required for cross browser support.
Note also that all modern browsers support HTML 5 video so it is only the rare visitor using an antiquated browser who wouldn't see the HTML 5 version.Last edited by felgall; 09-06-2015 at 08:22 PM.
