Two staffers for the Colorado state Senate Democrats might just win the award for best political costume this year for their spoof on widely panned videos comparing wedding dresses to candidates, including guv hopefuls John Hickenlooper and Bob Beauprez.
The ad from the College Republican National Committee, which was adapted for use in other states, plays off the TLC reality TV show “Say Yes to the Dress,” which chronicles the angst of brides-to-be. A betrothed young woman named Brittany, aka “Undecided Voter,” wants to wear “The Bob Beauprez,” a stylish, strapless number while her mother, Gloria, prefers “The John Hickenlooper,” a frumpy thing the daughter reacts to with horror.
Throughout the strange spot, Brittany misses pronounces the GOP nominee’s name as BOO-pray, when it’s BOW-pray.
Enter Danny McCarthy, complete with tattoos, a wedding dress and a sign that says “The Boo-pray,” and Kjersten Forseth, holding a sign that reads “The Hick,” in reference to Hickenlooper, the Democratic governor seeking a second term.

While the narrator discusses Romanoff’s “shameful” and “over the top” campaign ads, five television screens flicker above the accusations.
