Update Oct 2017. Tried this app again. Still hate it. I just want to listen to yesterday's All Things Consider, which I can do here, if I manually pick each story one at a time. Please go back to supporting the NPR News App. Between every story, there's a 15sec blurb about how awesome NPR One is. I'm already listening. Why are you doing this? Also generic promos for stories you're about to hear. Just play the story already. I liked the old NPR app because it cut out all the fluff and local news. I'm probably going to go back.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't remember the last time this app worked. It never connects to whatever server it's trying to get data from and it's been finickey at best for years. It looks nice and by golly if it ever worked I'd give it a decent rating because I loved it before but it must be downloading 180,000 terabytes of data every time it connects because good lord does it take it's sweet time (then gives up without telling you until you restart the app)

I realized that while I love the stories the app is mediocre at best. Can't go back to a story is a big problem. Too much self promotion. Also on my Galaxy S8+ it is a chore to get it off the notifications bar. Every other app on my phone I can just swipe to clear it. This app I have to hit a down arrow, then an X button, and it still won't go away half the time. Your news and stories are wonderful. Fix your app.

As an avid listener to NPR I had great expectations for this app. I had heard it could make playlists and learn what I liked to listen to. It gave access to more podcasts than I could get on GooglePlay, and seemed like a win all around, until I used it. It could be my phone is just old, but the app is crazy slow. I pull up a program to add it to favorites and all you get is slider bars but no way to know that you added it. So far my playlists have not played all the way through (they stop and switch to random news updates and go off track from there) and just finding what I want to listen too takes more time than I have. Overall a great concept, not terribly intuitive to use, and not from an old Galaxy S4, unless you are exceptionally patient.

I LOVE this app. I can get a two- minute news update whenever I want. There are also more in-depth stories (if I don't have time, I can save for later, or if I don't like it, I can skip). Through this app, I have discovered my two new favorite podcasts, and there are tons more to explore. Plus it helps me use my downtime in a way that's good for my brain, instead of endless social media scrolling. Highly recommended!

The audio controls need to be updated. It's too easy to accidentally skip the current program. Then it is SUPER hard to get back to the story you were just listening to. Even when clicking on it in recently heard, it starts at the end of the story and starts a new story. Very frustrating! The fact that you are unable to skip back a story is very disappointing.

It's too bad NPR is spending time and money to develop an app like this. Do that many listeners really like being spoon-fed NPR content unpredictably? Rarely updated and buggy. If you prefer choosing what you listen to and when, just about any other podcast app provides a better experience.
I love the easy access to the current national newscast. Unfortunately, it won't let me save a new home station, and asks me to sign in constantly, even if I just did a few seconds ago. Hope they work the bugs out, but at present, it's pretty disappointing.
Why do I have to login with a password EVERY time I launch the app. That plus the lack of offline mode and transitions that cut off the last few seconds of each segment make this app so much less useful than just subscribing to the podcasts in individually. Great idea disastrous implementation.
Only got to listen to one podcast, then app required me to log in. Why require me to log in. I don't want you to 'tailor' the fed. I want an eclectic mix. And I don't want to log in! Update: so I log in now, but the feed is sporadic, with long stretches of times that it can't connect to its server.
Seems to have a few bugs. I start the app and have it set to automatically start playing, however it just sits with the spinning symbol like it's trying to sync, and will stay that way unless I restarted.
A great service, but as of December 2017, very buggy when used with multiple speakers using Google Home audio groups. Will occasionally cut out on speakers. And after several segments have passed, will no longer be responsive, even after force quitting.
Great app, WHEN it works. Keep having an issue on a daily basis where it will randomly stop loading podcasts. Not a problem on my network end, and will prevent me from playing any podcasts until it seemingly randomly starts working.
Love it for finding my podcasts all in one place. Hate it for how often my podcasts stop along the way (not a service issue, either). Very, very annoying. Should be able to download podcasts and remove them when done thru the app to make listening better.
The app now requires you to sign in to use it which I think is a horrible feature; it was not always like that. It also doesn't allow you to queue up stories like their other app does. I think this app does have more programming available on it which is nice, and sometimes it's nice for random stores to just play instead of having yo search. I probably won't use it ever again for the first two reasons though.
This app has constant issues w connectivity; connection comes and goes, often won't load at all w or w/o wireless. You can't save your place when listening to podcasts. I love NPR but this app sucks.
I really love NPR, but I do wish that this app would get a "refresh" button so that you can make sure you are getting the most up-to-date news. As is, the refresh rates are pretty slow.
Is it an option to sign in or a requirement? Don't know. I was using it regularly without an account and largely enjoyed it despite the fact the stories didn't update without shutting the app down. Then I hit the sign-in wall. I don't want to create yet another account in a world of accounts. I didn't have to before. NPR doesn't acknowledge this scenario in their help section. "Don't you want your content curated with our fab algorithms?" NO! Just gimme summa dat Robert Siegel in a brown paper bag. Couldn't follow Morning Edition or All Things Considered either.
Wouldn't allow me to change my preferred station, but insisted I use my local station, even tho the preferred one showed up in the menu. I deleted the app, turned off location, and will try installing it again.
When this app works it is my number 1 source of news. Unfortunately the list of bugs is quite expansive and continues to grow. It constantly plays old stories, it freezes at least 3 times a day, when I move from streaming on my home Wi-Fi to the car I have to restart the app every time, and sometimes resetting the app does nothing to fix the constant buffering it claims to be doing. All in all, I have used this app for nearly a year and will probably continue to do so, but it seems that these issues haven't been addressed and I seriously doubt they ever will at this point.
It endlessly buffers, does not allow easy access to shows/podcasts you follow, and does not provide an option for offline listening. Local news seems to play with little trouble.
I just loaded this. I gave it 4 stars to start because of the available content. It will be nice to bookmark and listen to my favorite podcast when I want to. I'm having trouble selecting "All Things Considered" as a show to follow. I hope they can fix this.
This is a great app when it works. So very nice to be able to choose what I want to listen to but so very maddening that it locks up very frequently. Makes it mostly unusable.
I want to love this app, but it's awful. Searching for shows or stories is inconvenient and it won't queue the next story. The app itself never seems to work and it's constantly buffering or just hung up. Going back to using NPR News.
Chromecast support is littered with bugs. Stops playing after one or two stories then repeats the same stories after restarting app. Stops playing after one or two stories then repeats the same stories after restarting app. Stops playing after one or two stories then repeats the same stories after restarting app. Randomly fails to work on my Google Nexus 7 and Nexus 6p and repeatedly freezes after a podcast.

Thanks for the feedback. We are in the process of refactoring Chromecast support now.
** Update, we're in final testing, better Chromecast support is coming very soon ** Would rate lower if I didn't love content. Has begun to freeze constantly making impossible to use about once a day and needing manual app shut down to unfreeze. Fix the glitches.
I use this app all the time and love the content but it is one of the most buggy messes of an app I've ever used. Constantly when I'm using other apps I get pop ups that NPR One has stopped working, while listening to podcasts the app will randomly scrub back about 20 seconds, totally disjointing the listening experience and no matter how many times I follow and sign up for notifications for Up First, it never shows up in my followed shows, forcing me to search for it every morning. Also, as far as the interface is concerned, it's really stupid that you have to go to a submenu to see all of your followed shows. I sunscribe to those because I want to listen to them regularly and have no need for most of the other junk thrown at me on the main screen.
Absolutely love this app. There needs to be a refresh button, as it never auto refreshes when I open it. It is extremely frustrating.
Love the content but the app has some serious usability flaws. Ex: when casting this is the only app that makes my Chromecast reboot. Happens every 2-3 minutes. When that happens this application does not let me resume. It starts over from the beginning.
This app rarely plays when I press the play button. When it does play it continues to play stories that I constantly skip. I wish it had a thumbs down or not interested ever button, because it is definitely not learning my preferences 😓
I am a Planet Money addict. I ran out of episodes and my Google play podcasts didn't seem to find anything as awesome (and didn't have a lot of the other great NPR podcasts to listen to). So, I downloaded the app. This NPR One app SUCKS. It randomly freaks out, buffers, and it's hard to explore anything other than a few advertised episodes from recent podcasts. Perhaps the app is just not user-friendly. NOTE: The podcasts I chose to listen to, like 'Rough Translation' ... they were great. The app is terribly designed, unreliable in it's function, lacks accessibility, and does not easily offer a great selection of a chosen podcast [via Samsung Galaxy phone]. I look to NPR for information I want to learn about, or information I didn't know was interesting.... from people that are a joy to listen to. Good journalists/reporters (is that the right title?). The app sucks, the podcasts rock.
I like being able to listen to my podcasts all on the app, and I'm sure I'm having a dumb moment, but how do I turn the app off when I'm done listening? All I have figured out so far is to pause it.
Great when it actually works. Freezes up a lot...not sure if it's an issue with the app or their network.
Nice design and easy to use, but has lots of performance issues. Stopped working and keeps buffering. Randomly rewinds sometimes or skips stories.
Used to work really good. Now it constantly freezes and many times it plays old news that is a day old.
I like it. But can't figure out how to teach it what I like from NPR. I always have to start with a search and scroll down. It could be a little more user friendly... willing to go with it for easy access to content.
Love npr I've got to get my news fix and this app is great for that. The library is huge and the app doesn't just looks smooth, it feels great. The only downside is that it doesn't have live radio with your local station or any features like tune in which I have to switch to listen live. If I had that easily 5 stars.
Not as good as the NPR News app. Hard to find daily news stories to add to my playlist. Also, once I add stories to my playlist, it is unclear how to even get to my playlist to start playing it or rearrange the play order. Explore/Browsing articles is confusing and messy.
I wish the first thing that came up is my followed podcasts. I find I'm often manually search the daily Up First podcast in the morning, rather than it just being there. I also wish the NPR listen live stream just opened in the app rather than loading in a browser.
Although NPR one is featured in Google Home website, it does not work with Google Home. Either it says voice actions are not supported or there are no new stories. Feedback to developer went unanswered...
