I grew up on a farm in Central Kansas. I first developed a passion for reading as a form of escape any time I wasn't on a tractor, or stacking hay, or nearly freezing off appendages feeding cattle. When I left home to go to college in Arizona (I could finally get warm.) one of my first thoughts was that I could get a job in a bookstore. I decided that Publisher's Book Outlet was the perfect fit for me, so every other day I harassed the manager until she decided it was easiest to just give me a job. Within eighteen months I was the manager. I then moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona and took a job as the Used Book Manager for Bookman's Used Books. I worked with them for several years and helped them expand from one store into four.
I then took a year to work for Roy P. Jensen selling remainder books to bookstores from Denver to the shores of the Pacific. I had the distinct pleasure of visiting every major bookstore in the West. And yes, I bought more books than I could afford. My next job was with Green Apple Books in San Francisco which was rewarding not only because of the people I worked with, but also because of the opportunity I had to interact with a public who read as voraciously as I did. In the two years I was in San Francisco I attended to as many author events as I could adding much appreciated author signatures to my growing book collection.
I am one of the owners, and also the circulation manager of High Plains Journal out of Dodge City, Kansas. I can't seem to get away from paper! I'm perfectly fine with that. I decided to start this blog so I could share some of my thoughts about the books I read and the movies I watch. I also anticipate that occasionally I will have other subjects about this life I'm living that I will try to convey to my friends and followers in what will hopefully be a thought provoking manner.
