Jason Bourne (2016)
The most dangerous former operative of the CIA is drawn out of hiding to uncover hidden truths about his past.
Director:Paul Greengrass |

The Buzz: If you're looking for a break from superheroes (and you likely will be come late July), Bourne is your guy. No special powers or high-tech gadgets: He gets by on wits and muscle, oh, and some fire, guns, and motorcycles; this is a summer blockbuster. Best of all, Bourne is a spy with a conscience, and he could kick Bond's boozed-up butt. - Melissa
Bad Moms (2016)
When three overworked and under-appreciated moms are pushed beyond their limits, they ditch their conventional responsibilities for a jolt of long overdue freedom, fun, and comedic self-indulgence.

The Buzz: This R-rated comedy, which you may or may not confuse with Mean Moms, a potential Jennifer Aniston comedy that's languishing in development, was first set up at Paramount with Leslie Mann starring and her husband, Judd Apatow, producing. Upstart studio STX Entertainment scooped it up, shuffled in some new actresses, and got it ready for the summer movie season, which has greeted some comedies warmly and turned a tanned shoulder to others. The premise here is straight forward and relatable though it's always tough to predict how strong the ladies-night-out crowd will be, though there's a chance that this could also become the date movie of choice since it has Hangover cred in the form of writers/directors Jon Lucas & Scott Moore.
Nerve (2016) - [Opens 7/27]
A high school senior finds herself immersed in an online game of truth or dare, where her every move starts to become manipulated by an anonymous community of "watchers."

The Buzz: Having earned an awkward embrace from adult critics, it will be interesting to see if, when, and exactly how teenagers pay any attention to it. For weeks, the studio behind Nerve has been marketing it like it's already a hit, though we bet VOD numbers will be strong and the number of illegal downloads will be even stronger.
Gleason (2016) - [Limited]
At the age of 34, Steve Gleason was diagnosed with ALS. Doctors gave the former NFL defensive back and New Orleans hero two to five years to live. So that is what Steve chose to do - LIVE: with purpose, for his newborn son, for his wife, and to help others with his disease.
Director:Clay Tweel |
|
| Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: The topic the NFL just wishes would go away comes back in heart wrenching form with a look at how former defensive back Steve Gleason decided to live his life after being diagnosed with ALS.
Equity (2016) - [Limited]
Senior investment banker Naomi Bishop is threatened by a financial scandal and must untangle a web of corruption.
Director:Meera Menon |

The Buzz:
In her first major role since "Breaking Bad" wrapped, Anna Gunn consumes and savors every line of dialogue in the promising trailer for this Wall Street thriller. Looks like Gunn will be psychosexually involved with James Purefoy (jealous) and cat-and-moused by the generally underutilized Alysia Reiner, who plays a state attorney and old friend of Gunn's character.
Reiner, along with supporting actress Sarah Megan Thomas, are two of the principals in the recently formed production/distribution company Broad Street Pictures, adding some realness to these proceedings.
Indignation (2016) - [Limited]
In 1951, Marcus, a working-class Jewish student from New Jersey, attends a small Ohio college, where he struggles with sexual repression and cultural disaffection, amid the ongoing Korean War.
Director:James Schamus |
|
| Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Called "the first great Phillip Roth adaptation" by some critics, Indignation also finds heralded screenwriter/former indie movie exec James Schamus coming into his own as a director to boot.
The Land (2016) - [Limited]- Drama
THE LAND tells the story of four teenage boys who devote their summer to escaping the streets of Cleveland, Ohio to pursue a dream life of professional skateboarding. But when they get caught in the web of the local Queen-pin, their motley brotherhood is tested, threatening to make this summer their last.
Director:Steven Caple Jr. |
|
| Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Director Steven Caple Jr. has been riding a high since his first movie premiered at Sundance earlier this year, where it earned strong reviews. This doesn't seem to be a case of festival hype that might ultimately seem unwarranted. Instead, The Land - slang for Cleveland, where these aspiring pro skateboarder kids live - has been praised for its characters, atmosphere, and authenticity. Not seen in the trailer: any glimpse of Momma, the drug queen-pin played by Linda Emond to whom the main characters must answer. I hear Momma is like no one you've ever seen or observed. - Arno
Tallulah (2016) - [Limited]- Comedy | Drama | Romance
Desperate to be rid of her toddler, a dissatisfied Beverly Hills housewife hires a stranger to babysit and ends up getting much more than she bargained for.

In the most challenging year of her life, Sharon Jones confronts pancreatic cancer. Eva's independent spirit motivates Ariel to come to grips with the traditions that once divided him and his father.

Into the Forest (2015) - [Limited]
After a massive power outage, two sisters learn to survive on their own in their isolated woodland home.
Director:Patricia Rozema |
|
| Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Wonderful to see Evan Rachel Wood on the big screen opposite Ellen Page (who helped develop this adaptation of Jean Hegland's novel). The two actresses are the soul and center of the movie as we bear witness to complete societal breakdown around them, though there have been disagreements as to whether the story's nods to family bonds, sisterhood, and feminism are evocative or otherwise.
