Major disaster response and development operations by the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement

Earthquake in Nepal

After two deadly earthquakes struck Nepal in April and May 2015, the IFRC mobilized a major disaster operation in support of the Nepal Red Cross Society. Early on, more than 2.5 million people were reached with food, water, healthcare and shelter. The longer term priorities are earthquake-resistant reconstruction, and improving people’s health, livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene.
