Sunday Brunch at Don Coqui was like no other brunch dining and midday-destination lounge, dance floor popping outrageous DJ experience I have ever had. Thats a promise! I went with a small group of friends here for a just because lets eat, drink and be merry on a Sunday and little did we know this Sunday was going to be everything a rocking you, shocking you, get on the dance floor and do your thing and let the good times roll Brunch. Brunch started out in the dining area feeling all shi shi foo foo, I'm loving the decor, lights, seating and overall set-up, we all took our seats and right away the mimosa's are flowing to the table (opt for the un-limited Mimosas for 2 hours for an additional $10 if Mimosas are your thing). Brunch is fairly priced and plated nicely. What we ordered, thoughts & rating's - see below. * A plentiful combination of two sunny side up Eggs, Carne Frita and Rice served with Beans, Sweet Plantains and avocado - very good 3.5 stars * Ropa Vieja and Eggs Served with Maduros and Black Bean Rice - even better than very good. 4.5 stars * Pernil / Rice & Beans / Sweet Plaintains - This was the dish I ordered, I would absolutely re-order this too! 5.00 star's - all the best of the Puerto Rican flavors and a huge chunk of perfectly seasoned pernil (Roast Pork) that was tender, moist and juicy, meat fell off of the bone and even had some of the crunchy skin on it - Oink Oink - I love It! * Mofongo with Roast pork came with a side of garlicky roast pork gravy - Im told this was a winner gets 5 stars * Mofongo & Garlic Shrimp came with Garlicy seafood gravy - again a 5.0 star hit! * Homemade Flan - very creamy and good - 4.5 Drinks - Mimosa's, Cocktails & Long Island Ice Tea's - most of my company enjoyed the Mimosa's for the extended hours and beyond and the rest of us were enjoying Wepa cocktails, Long Island Ice Tea's, Massive Bulldog drinks and by now feeling comfortably full and really nice. We we're politely invited to move our party over to their lounge area which really was the star of our brunch, I mean if you like hip hop, salsa, Merengue, R&B, funk, House & techno music you hit the jackpot coming here, the DJ that was playing this Sunday was off the hook, the music is loud, I'm loud, my friends are loud, everybody in the lounge was loud and the drinks were off the hook! We had a Fabulous time here, got to dance off the food we happily gouged ourselves on, drank like the next day wasnt Monday and we had to go to work, danced to almost everything and it was only 4:00 in the afternoon and the night was young still. Yes, Don Coqui is defintely a place to throw all sorts of celebrations, parties and come on out just because you need to feel alive with good food, drinks, great music, nice lightining and decor and an open spacious dance floor. Damn right I will be back, I love when you can have a great time eating, sipping cocktails and dancing all in one place!

On Nov 25th I had the pleasure to visit the Guggenheim museum in NY for the very first time. I am a (classical music) composer from Malta (Europe). I travel every month, touring with my music projects, participating in festivals or attending conferences related to my work. When I'm in a foreign country I always try to attend concerts, performances or museums. I really enjoyed my time at the Guggenheim and the highlight of the visit was the tour on Kandinsky by museum educator Filip Notredaeme. This has been the best tour I have ever experienced and I want to present my comments as a token of appreciation. Filip presented a very clear and informed portrait of the artist but what impressed me most was the way in which he did it. It wasn't just a tour .... it was an amazing journey. He delivered the content about each painting with passion, insight and even a brush stroke of humor. One lady wanted to know the duration of the tour, to which Filip answered: "About an hour but please free to leave at any time during the tour or even run for your life" :) !!! Filip was very sensitive to the comments of his audience - developing each question into a sustainable strand within the narrative of his presentation. There was a couple with 2 girls, around 8 yrs old. My first thoughts were: how is Filip going to deal with this? how can he possibly deliver a presentation on Kandinsky that appeals to both the adults and these 2 kids? I was sure that Filip would have to ignore the kids ...after all there was a separate programme at the museum designed for kids. I was wrong. Filip managed to masterfully involve the kids throughout his tour without dumbing down the presentation. I left the Guggenheim a richer person, wishing I could live in NY so that I can experience more of these tours at the Guggenheim. So thank you Filip and I really think that you should compile your tours into a publication.
