Bonavita is a company that's been working hard at making inroads into the coffee nerd community for about five years now but perhaps you still haven't heard of them. If you haven't, let this be your introduction.

They're price leaders in things like SCAA approved auto drip brewers, precise temperature control kettles, stovetop (and temperature control) pourover kettles, pourover systems for manual brewing, and even a few unique devices, like the Bonavita Porcelain Immersion Brewer, which we did an extensive how-to on.

A couple of years ago, a long time established American company, Espresso Supply, took over distributorship of Bonavita in the US, and has a strong connection to the company, helping it drive future products. We expect to see some interesting things from this company in Seattle at the SCAA show in April (2015).

We've reviewed other Bonavita products, both formally and informally on this website. In terms of auto drip brewers, Bonavita has variations on the BV1800 original model (a glass carafe version and a steel insulated carafe version), the newer BV1900 series (which uses flat filter baskets) and the BV1500 series of 5 cup brewers.

This time around however, we're going to have a look at their BV1800SS 8 cup automatic drip coffee maker, with its thermal steel carafe. It's been on the market for over 3 years now, and still going strong, because of several things: it is SCAA certified (that is a big deal), it's made very well, and the price point is good. Let's find out more.
