So, as I'm embarking on my new super-awesome whatever-it-is-program, I check out the optparse section (page 765), then have a few follow up questions. I roll over to the #python (freenode IRC channel) and begin interrogating the peeps. They explain that optparse has been (generally) abandoned for
argparse; there's a somewhat terse
tutorial as well.
Apparently now argparse is part of the Python Standard Library.
