This article introduced the basic use of Fragments in Android 3.0 and higher.
It described how to use a layout file to add a Fragment to an Activity, and how
to use the FragmentManager and FragmentTransactions to
add a Fragment dynamically. It also introduced some of the specialized Fragment
base classes, such as ListFragment, DialogFragment,
and PreferenceFragment.
To show how to help support older versions of Android, the Android Support Package was introduced, and changes were demonstrated that allowed Fragments to be used in an application that supports large screens with a single Activity and how an application on smaller screens with two Activities can host different Fragments.
