Research Collaborations

Each year Facebook researchers partner with university faculty, post-docs, and doctoral students on research projects. We engage in over 100 research collaborations each year with professors and students across various engineering disciplines. Collaborators will be given the opportunity to work directly with relevant research, engineering, and product teams to discuss their research directions, learn about ongoing Facebook research, access unique datasets and explore deep technical challenges. Our hope is to provide a mutually beneficial exchange that will help define and solve the major technical challenges facing our industry today.

Research collaborations require the following:

  • -At least one faculty PI (Principle Investigator). The PI may assign post-docs and doctoral students to the project, which we welcome.
  • -An internal sponsor or champion to be the Facebook PI. This is a Facebook researcher who has agreed to work with the faculty PI.
  • -A clearly articulated project outline including timeline for completion and proposed outcomes.
  • -An IP agreement between Facebook and the University.

If you are interested in collaborating with a Facebook researcher, the best way to get started is build a relationship with our researchers as you make connections through our publications and presence at conferences, and seek their partnership. If you have questions, please email academicrelations@fb.com.
