Bio/Description

I do web development, and just happen to specialize in WordPress development. (By choice!) What can I say, it’s the #1 CMS on the web for a reason. 🙂 I run a web development firm in the San Diego area. My team and I focus on anti-spam, speed-optimization, website security, custom WordPress development (plugins, themes, sites), and along with a few other areas. I’ve also been developing WordPress plugins (and everything else) for about a decade. One you might have heard of is WP-SpamShield.

WordPress Origin Story

I got involved with WordPress back in 2006 with version 2.0. I was heading the web design team at an ad agency at the time. I had set up a blog on Blogger for my employees so we could share web development tips and tricks with each other. After a while, it became a bit cumbersome, and we were looking for something better. I had heard a lot of good things about WordPress, and set up a test blog to check it out. It was instant love. I immediately imported the blog into WordPress, and never looked back. I quickly jumped into WordPress plugin development with my first anti-spam plugin, the predecessor to WP-SpamShield. Things have come a long way since then.

I’m a firm believer that WordPress is the single best CMS out there, and it’s been awesome watching it’s global market share grow, to the point where over 25% of the web is powered by it. It’s also been great to watch PHP develop and grow, increasing in functionality, security, efficiency and speed over the years.

I do a lot of WordPress plugin development, including FOSS plugins hosted here on WordPress.org, as well as custom plugins for our clients. (We do a lot of custom WordPress development for clients, including custom plugins, themes, and other functionality.)

Going back to my early days in web development in the mid-90’s, I have never been a fan of spam. It wastes people’s time and takes away from their lives and businesses. Stats show it takes a huge chunk out of the global economy. That’s why the WP-SpamShield anti-spam plugin is a project I spend a lot of time on, and really believe in. I truly hope that we can make a positive impact in some small way.

Debugging WordPress code has become a hobby of sorts, and it’s gotten to the point where I read WordPress core code for fun. 🙂
