I’ve spent far too many words explaining why I’m not a fan of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but one thing the film completely nailed was Batman’s look. The costume worn by Ben Affleck is the best costume worn by any Batman actor yet, stepping away from the rubber of the Tim Burton years and the bulky armor of Christopher Nolan’s movies and delivering something streamlined, intimidating and instantly recognizable. It also helps that Affleck brought the perfect mixture of charm and rage behind the cowl. Remove the parts where he executes a couple of dozen people, and you have yourself a damn fine Batman.
While we can safely assume that Batman will wear his regular tights in the upcoming Justice League, a new photo from the set has revealed an alternate outfit dubbed the “Tactical Batsuit.” Because it wouldn’t be a superhero sequel without everyone getting a new costume!

Tim Burton’s Batman shook the pop culture landscape in some pretty profound ways when it first arrived back in 1989. Burton transformed into a go-to blockbuster guy. Michael Keaton proved himself to be more than just a comedian. Jack Nicholson became absurdly wealthy. And perhaps most importantly, millions of people around the world willingly paid hard-earned cash money to see a superhero movie, which wasn’t exactly a healthy genre at the time.
But that version of the film only came about after nearly a decade of development, with many different directors, writers, and actors brushing against the project. One of those directors was Joe Dante, and he wanted to cast John Lithgow as the Joker.

There have been rumblings for some time that we might see characters from Suidice Squad appear in Justice League. We know that Warner Bros really wants a connected universe and say what you will about the film, but people responded to the characters in Suicide Squad. Even when I was visiting the set of Justice League, there were even rumors that we might be seeing a scene which involved some of the Sqwad. Of course, that didn’t happen. And now we have confirmation that Jared Leto’s The Joker will not be appearing in Zack Snyder’s superhero team-up film.

With a bevy of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story merchandise gearing up to hit stores on September 30th, 2016 (a marketing event called “Force Friday”, or is it “Rogue Friday?”) we are finally seeing a lot more designs for the first Star Wars standalone movie. One of the designs to be released as a toy is a Stormtrooper with a jetpack which has got some Star Wars fans wondering if we’ll be seeing Stormtroopers in flight (i.e. Jump troopers) in the new film.

I’m a sucker for visual effects breakdown reels in general, but I’m really a sucker for Game of Thrones visual effects breakdown reels because they showcase just how much of HBO’s fantasy drama is quietly enhanced by intelligent, often invisible special effects. Sure, everyone knows those dragons are CGI, but your eyes don’t always catch the numerous set extensions. You probably don’t even realize that the sky has been replaced and the lightning digitally modified in many scenes.
And as one VFX reel reveals, a great deal of the violence is brought to life through some surprisingly effective trickery, combining digital and practical elements in a seamless fashion.

The first wave of reviews for Tom Ford‘s Nocturnal Animals are mostly positive. The critics who aren’t particularly taken with Ford’s romantic crime thriller describe it as a hollow piece of work. Ford’s moving debut A Single Man received similar criticisms from its few detractors, so it sounds like we should expect a similar response to his latest film, although it looks and sounds like a completely different movie.
Below, watch the Nocturnal Animals teaser for the trailer.

Someday, someone is going to write a tell-all book exploring the history of Marvel Studios, and it will almost certainly be a compelling read. The company’s rise has been nothing short of astonishing, but the stories emerging from behind-the-scenes have often been bizarre and inexplicable, the result of battles over creative control between several different captains trying to steer the ship in different directions. Specifically, we’re talking about the clashing between Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
A little over a year ago, Feige won this particular war, essentially cutting Perlmutter out of the decision-making process at Marvel Studios. However, the fragments of their years of strife are still apparent and still being talked about. Case in point: Rebecca Hall still isn’t euphoric with what went down on Iron Man 3.

If anyone was wondering what a television series written and directed by Woody Allen would look like, all they have to do is look at the rest of the director’s filmography. The first trailer for Crisis in Six Scenes, the new series he created for Amazon, could easily be mistaken for a preview of new Allen movie – it has self-deprecating jabs, a jazzy soundtrack, and that relaxed, slightly whimsical tone that has come to dominate so much of his later work. In other words, if the thought of a typical three-hour Woody Allen comedy spread across six chapters sounds appealing, this is the show for you.
