If you are a slightly older actor from the United Kingdom capable of growing a fine beard and wearing a convincing scowl, there is a strong chance you have appeared on HBO’s Game of Thrones at some point. And if you haven’t appeared on Game of Thrones, it may be your fault for turning it down in the early days, before it was a gigantic hit that would put you in front of an audience of millions and millions of rabid fans who obsess over every episode.
Every so often, one of the actors who turned the show down speaks up, offering a glimpse at what could have been. Today, that slightly older actor from the United Kingdom capable of growing a fine beard and wearing a convincing scowl who turned down the show in its infancy is the great Brian Cox.

Children of the late ’80s and early ’90s are undoubtedly familiar with the Nickelodeon family game show Double Dare. Airing from 1986 to 1993, the show followed two-member teams of kids answering trivia questions and competing in messy physical challenges, culminating in the famous obstacle course at the very end. And in honor of Double Dare‘s 30th anniversary, the show is coming back in July.
Nickelodeon has announced that Double Dare is coming to San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 22 for a special live edition of the show, and original host Marc Summers will be back as host. Find out more about Double Dare at Comic-Con after the jump. Read More »

Game of Thrones season 6 concluded with a bang last week, killing off a significant portion of the cast and radically shifting the power structure of the entire show. With season seven set to begin filming soon and with George R.R. Martin’s sixth novel nowhere in sight, fans can only do one thing: wait. Oh, and talk. And speculate. And argue about fan theories. We’ve actually reached peak fan theory – my mother-in-law was grilling me about a few of the wackier ones this past week.
So let’s take a moment to look over the main fan theories currently buzzing around the internet following the conclusion of season 6. Some of these are plausible and others are infuriating, but we wouldn’t be Game of Thrones fans unless we were arguing about something.

While everyone tends to turn their noses up at movie remakes, the world seems to be at peace with films journeying to the small screen. Sure, we occasionally have to put up with shows like that ill-fated new take on Rush Hour, but that’s a small price to pay for the likes of Friday Night Lights and Fargo, shows that use a familiar name to build something big and beautiful and carefully constructed for serialized storytelling. It’s reached the point where a television version of a beloved movie feels like a creatively safer proposition than a big screen remake.
So the news that Walter Hill’s classic film The Warriors is being developed as a television series for Hulu doesn’t fill me with instant dread, especially since it’s in the capable hands of Joe and Anthony Russo.

The first trailer for Netflix’s Stranger Things sure got our attention. Our own Jacob Hall described it as having a “pinch of Amblin and a cup of Stephen King,” which is a spot-on description of a series that looks like a big throwback. There are images in the trailers, including the latest one, that can’t help but make you think of Amblin, King, and John Carpenter‘s work. All of those potential influences could add up to little more than a trip down nostalgia lane, but the trailers are leading us to believe there’s possibly more to this Netflix series.

“Danger Will Robinson!” Netflix has announced today that they have ordered a 10-episode first season of a new Lost In Space tv series. The one-hour sci-fi drama is of course based on the 1960’s sci-fi classic from Irwin Allen. New Line Cinema made a movie based on the property in 1998 directed by Stephen Hopkins which I remember being pretty horrible. Find out who’s involved in this new take on the science fiction classic, after the jump.

Over its first two seasons, Better Call Saul has pulled in more than a few familiar faces from Breaking Bad. There’s Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and Mike Ehrmentraut (Jonathan Banks), of course, but also criminal power players like Tuco Salmanca (Raymond Cruz) and even random minor characters like Ken (Kyle Bornheimer). One that’s yet to show up, though? Walter White, whose transformation from Mr. Chips into Scarface put Saul Goodman on that long and rocky road to Omaha.
At this point, it’s unclear whether the future Heisenberg will ever make his way to the prequel series. But if he does, Bryan Cranston says he’d be “all in” for a Better Call Saul Walter White cameo. Provided Vince Gilligan ever calls him up, that is. Read More »
