From the moment my flight landed, the experience was something I couldn't have anticipated! I received an SMS with car details including the chauffeur's verification data! Touched by the security, I settled into the hotel's Mercedes and was offered water. As we arrived at the hotel, check-in was swift and I was shown a deluxe room overlooking the Arabian Sea. It was plush with wifi, butler service, maid service and a washroom featuring both bath and shower. But it is their luxurious amenities that truly standout like the embossed leather note pad and toiletries! The floor butler called shortly to ask if she could help unpack and though I declined, her smiling demeanour gave me courage to request assistance in mending a new dress… and she arranged a tailor in minutes! The hotel may call it butler service; I call it genie in a bottle! Unpacking, I headed to Juhu for a meeting and was back in time for a scheduled therapy at Iridium Spa. The bespoke firm-pressure deep-tissue massage using grapeseed oil due to sensitive skin left me feeling deeply relaxed! A shower and cups of floral tea later, I headed to my room to get dressed, and then went up to the modern Japanese restaurant Yuuka on Level 38 for a lavish dinner. It was a superlative experience where the chef's knowledge of the history, theatrical presentation and ingredients of each dish served crowned the fine dining. The following morning, I was up at 8 and headed to all-day dining restaurant The Seven Kitchens for a breakfast of exotic fruits, waffles, pancakes, muesli and coffee. I couldn't help wondering about the number of restaurants, bars and lounges — the colonial-style 'Sahib Room' and 'Kipling Bar' serve contemporary Indian cuisine and spice-infused cocktails. 'The Drawing Room' serves afternoon tea. There are nightclubs 'Li Bai' and 'Exo', restaurants 'By the Mekong' and 'Yuuka', and a bar 'Asilo'. Whoa! Since time was scarce, I vowed to return soon to explore it in detail! With an hour in hand, a lap of the artistic hotel led me to the members-only equestrian-themed business floor 'Equis' with meetings rooms, business centre, lounge, wine cellar et al. PS It's also a contemporary space where you can have wine in privacy! Why? To prevent gawking. It's a private luxury space where the social, business or celebrity set doesn't want to be stared at, thankyouverymuch. Whoa! At 10, checkout was a swift process again and the concierge accompanied me to the porch where the car awaited. Reminiscing about my stay at St Regis Mumbai, I would highly recommend staying there. An added attraction? The city's largest shopping mall is in the same property! (12.1.2016)

Shivaji Park is a public park situated in Dadar, Mumbai. It is the largest park in the island city. Like the Azad Maidan and August Kranti Maidan (formerly Gowalia Tank Grounds), it is of historical and cultural value because of the political and social gatherings it has witnessed, both in pre- and post-independence Mumbai. The 112937m2 open space is renowned as the cradle of Indian cricket.GeographyThe open ground or Maidan is flanked around its edge by a katta, a simple continuous low kerb edging that forms a makeshift seat, a popular hangout for young and old alike. The paved walkway around this perimeter is crowded with people taking walks. The inner circumference of the park is. The maidan covers 112937m2, more than half of which is occupied by 31 tenants, the largest being clubs like the Shivaji Park Gymkhana, and the Bengal Club. the remaining part of the ground and open spaces are available to the public for sports and other activities. Other structures dotting the periphery of the grounds include the Samarth Vyayam Mandir (gymnasium), Shivaji Park Nagarik Sangh (established in 1947), a children's Park, Nana-Nani Park ( park for senior citizens), Scout's Pavilion, a Ganesh temple and a library. The walkway is lined with huge rain trees. The most prominent entrance to the park is the one on the east side, intended only for pedestrians. A bust of Meenatai Thackeray, late wife of Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray, has been placed at this entrance. Previously a bust of Ram Ganesh Gadkari was present at the same spot. Bal Thackeray himself was cremated here.
