The National Museum of Beirut is the principal museum of archaeology in Lebanon. The collection was begun after World War I, and the museum was officially opened in 1942. The museum has collections totaling about 100,000 objects, most of which are antiquities and medieval finds from excavations undertaken by the Directorate General of Antiquities. About 1300 artifacts are exhibited, ranging in date from prehistoric times to the medieval Mamluk period.During the 1975 Lebanese Civil War, the museum stood on the front line that separated the warring factions. The museum's Egyptian Revival building and its collection suffered extensive damage in the war, but most of the artifacts were saved by last-minute preemptive measures. Today, after a major renovation, the National Museum of Beirut has regained its former position, especially as a leading collector for ancient Phoenician objects.HistoryOriginIn 1919, a small group of ancient artifacts collected by Raymond Weill, a French officer stationed in Lebanon, was exhibited at a provisional museum in the Kaiserswerth Deaconesses' building in Georges Picot Street, Beirut. Meanwhile, a forerunner of the Archaeological and Fine Arts Service began to assemble items from the region round Beirut. The initial collection was rapidly expanded under successive antiquity directors with the addition of finds from the excavations led by Dr. Georges Contenau at Saida and Ernest Renan at Saida, Tyre and Byblos. Donations of private collections included those of Henry Seyrig’s coin collection, General Weygand in 1925 and Dr George Ford, the Director of the American Mission School of Sidon, in 1930.

This review is about The Grill Room - Four Seasons Beirut; P.S: This review is found on Zomato - Restaurant Finder: This will probably be my longest review. Once you enter this restaurant, you cannot but notice the luxurious world that you are about to enter. Very warm and fancy colors are used, especially the "private" area: behind the red velvety curtain. The panoramic view is amazing. The material that is used in the restaurant, from cutleries to print is pure luxury. The setup is very spacious and very well organized, and the decor is very nice. Soft contemporary music is played softly in the background. We were greeted by a smiling hostess that led us to our table. Imad was our main waiter. Very professional staff, very well trained, very polite, knows the menu by heart and can answer all of your questions immediately, and knows how to deal with things. As for the food, the presentation needs to be better. Such master pieces should be presented in a more artistic way. The bread was hot, fresh and delicious. The salads were fresh and had crispy greens. The Succrine salad is my favorite, but I noticed that they were a bit stingy when it comes to sauces. The presentation of this salad needs to be improved. I love the pecan in this salad. Burrata Salad was very fresh and light, but needed more pesto sauce. I find the cucumber unnecessary, and the tomatoes should be cut in smaller portions. All of the steaks were ordered medium well, and the all came very juicy and very well seasoned. I recommend the Rib Eye steak, with mushroom sauce. I did not like the Béarnaise sauce. The desserts were exquisite. Premium quality dark chocolate is used. The Tiramisù and the fondant had the right amount of sugar. It took sometime to get our steaks done, but neat work should take time! Service is impeccable, by all means. If you're willing to spend a good amount of cash for a delicious steak with a very professional service, you should visit this place.
