    JCT estimates Senate bill would increase deficits by $1 trillion even after accounting for effects on growth, and that growth effects would be even smaller or negative in future decades.

    Ask yourself: why do Republicans think they can get away with this? Because fucking nothing matters anymore. Because cause and effect doesn’t matter. Because facts don’t matter. Because they can spin, spin, spin until it’s somehow Obama’s fault.

    Really think that everyone--Republicans but also many in the media--are understating the coming backlash against this tax bill in middle/upper-middle blue state precincts. A lot of people are gonna owe a lot more in taxes to pay for high-end breaks and they're gonna be furious.

    I want to believe this. I really do. But it implies that reality matters, that cause and effect still hold, and I’m not so sure of that. Not anymore.

    Bullshit. This is a moral emergency. There are legitimate reasons to think this man is mentally unfit. And even if he was merely a sociopath and narcissistic jerk, he still should not control the world’s largest nuclear arsenal.

    Trump is a sociopath and a Narcissistic jerk, but to label him mentally incapable of governing is a bridge too far. He’s crazy, all right: crazy like a fox. We must beware the medicalization of politics:

    It’s immeasurably dangerous to have a president whose confidence scales with his ignorance. In that blinkered, deranged, half-baked mind of his, these words are really true.

    The only people who don’t like the Tax Cut Bill are the people that don’t understand it or the Obstructionist Democrats that know how really good it is and do not want the credit and success to go to the Republicans!

    The latter is scarier. A man so cocooned in his own bullshit can convince himself of anything. And justify anything. And remain totally unconstrained by doubt or guilt.

    When Trump lies about something as absurd as whether he is the person shown and heard speaking on a tape, is he just lying to us? Or is he somehow also able to lie to himself? And which is scarier?
