Felicia Day – can we be friends?! (a grief read)

November 16, 2015November 16, 2015 ~ christine2230 ~ 4 Comments

Update – Monica never offered me a reading, and Joe Biden never extended me a lunch invite. I know! I’m shocked too. So I’m calling out Felicia Day, since this obviously works for me. Or not. But maybe it will this time – I’ve entered double digits (>10 followers). Continue reading →

“I’m sorry. I just can’t. It’ll destroy me,” I tell my boss, following advice received in response to texts sent minutes prior. Continue reading →

Our love story (with some awkwardness)

Our wedding again
November 9, 2015November 9, 2015 ~ christine2230 ~ 4 Comments

My biggest regret (besides lacking psychic abilities necessary to save Matthew)? Not recording my dad’s toast at my wedding. I remember it – how the crowd roared with laughter, and how some inquired whether my dad (Marlyn, not to be confused with Marilyn), a conservationist, moonlighted as a stand-up comedian… Continue reading →

I’m Naked & Afraid

Naked & Afraid – a most appropriate metaphor for my life. Also, perhaps, the most appropriately named show in the history of television. Continue reading →

Extreme healing ideas & a glow in the woods

I’d go on a three-month trip to Bali, alone, to some Zen resort – one with loads of koi fish ponds. Each day, I’d walk along said koi fish ponds, barefoot, yoga mat (or luxurious white towel?) in tow. I’d pick a spot, lay down my mat (or towel?), sit on it (Indian style), close my eyes, and hold my hands out to my sides, palms facing the sky. I just solicited budget feedback from all the VPs in my company. I made the information due back to me on Friday, November 13 – Friday the Thirteenth.  The old me wouldn’t have done that. The new me hopes they’re all super disturbed by the whole Friday the Thirteenth thing. Continue reading →

Matthew’s death FAQs

October 26, 2015November 9, 2015 ~ christine2230 ~ 22 Comments

So when I tell people Matthew’s story, most of them are like “WTF!?!” And then they ask questions. I don’t mind – I actually prefer inquisitive people, especially over those who keep their heads shoved up dark places. Continue reading →

Every year, in the US alone, ~26,000 babies are stillborn. This is ~1/160. This is far too many, though, currently, shockingly few resources are devoted to researching stillbirth. Doctors accept this not-so-great statistic, often telling patients, "This just happens sometimes, sorry." While stillbirth does "happen sometimes," that flippant response to a statistic many believe could be dramatically improved is maddening. We do not give up on ANY other causes so easily, so why this?

In the US, stillbirth prevention faces political hurdles - this petition is necessary in getting federal stakeholders to acknowledge the 26,000 babies lost each year and encourage new opportunities to save lives.

If you've been touched by Matthew's story and reside in the US, please go to http://wh.gov/iyvi6 and take a minute to sign this petition to declare stillbirth a national health crisis and develop guidelines for better screening.
And, everyone, please consider re-sharing this with your network, especially if it includes US followers who might be interested.

So many are affected by this tragedy, and we want as many as possible to have the opportunity to sign. The petition needs 100,000 signatures by December 10 - we have a long way to go, but if every family who lost a baby knew about this, we'd get there easily.

Please use #SignForStillbirth when sharing. Thanks!!!
