Well, we finally had to do it... With 28,000 users, it's finally time to write some rules.

  1. Play nice - This shouldn't need much explanation. Breaking this rule is a good way to get banned.

  2. Stay on topic - if your reply isn't about how to help OP, we don't want it. This is not the place for jokes, sarcasm, or obviously wrong answers. People reading this may not realize you thought you were being funny.

  3. No karma mining - Unless your post is a question or advice about bike repair, it doesn't belong here. We don't need to see pictures of your latest build, or that funny bike that rolled into the shop. There are other subreddits for that.

  4. "Is this cracked / safe to ride?" - If you have to ask, don't ride it. We probably can't tell from a picture just what condition your bike is in. Take it to your Local Bike Shop and ask them. If it's carbon, they're probably going to tell you to replace it.

Hi there,

I am trying to determine which fenders to install on my bike. I has a 700C frame and 650B wheels (with 38mm Gravelkings which I btw measured to be 40.5mm wide).

Should I get 700C fenders to better fit my frame or 650B ones to fit my wheels?

Note: it is a disc brake bike whith clearance for 650Bx50 or 700Cx40 tyres.

So recently I had the chance to pick up a nice set of XT hubs and E*Thirteen 29" rims for fairly stupidly cheap, which is perfect since I'll be getting an Enduro bike soon and could use an extra set of wheels on hand. Obviously I'll have to build them up from scratch, which means at the moment I'm missing spokes and nipples (along with various tubeless tire related paraphernalia).

I'm not a novice to wheelbuilding, but I've never built a set of wheels for aggressive mountain biking before, and really have no idea what to pick for spokes and nipples. For some reason resources on spoke choice for building mountain bike wheels are very sparse, and I can't find any useful info - the best I can make of it is that I should be going for butted spokes? I have no idea what specific gauges or models to pick. There's also a slight complication in that I need straight pull spokes (the hubs are the somewhat less common M8110-BS model, which are straight pull), and the spoke lengths I need are pretty long at 302mm (all four spoke lengths coincidentally came out to +-0.4mm of 302mm), and the combination of straight pull + the length makes it pretty hard to find suitable spokes.

Also, I'd like to keep the cost of all 56 spokes + nipples under $100 USD if possible.

What kind of spokes should I be looking for? What gauge or butting profile? Any specific models or sites you can recommend?

So far the best choice I can find are Sapim Race 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes from Wheelbuilder, which brings me pretty much right to the edge of my budget. Is there something better?
