If you have an existing phpBB3 Forum, we will gladly import your data (posts, users, avatars, attachments, etc.) into Forumatic. Each plan specifies the maximum number of posts that may be imported, while all other data is unrestricted. If you would like to move to Forumatic from a software other than phpBB3 contact us for pricing.
Sign up for an account and follow the steps to create a new forum. For the purpose of this guide we will assume that you created a new forum at mydomain.forumatic.com.
Your hoster typically provides you access to your MySQL database through phpMyAdmin. If you don't have access to phpMyAdmin you can ask for help on our Support Community or contact us contact us. In phpMyAdmin select the Export tab at the top of your database. Make sure that all tables are selected to be exported. The export format should be SQL. You should export both structure and data. Don't use compression, since the backup will be compressed in the next step. Download your export and save it in a file called database.sql.
To import user uploaded files you need to download files like avatars, smileys and ranks from your forum. The phpBB directories containing user uploaded files are shown to the right. Make sure to keep the directory structure as listed.
Create a compressed zip archive file containing the directories you just downloaded. Make sure to include the database.sql file you created in the previous step. Examples of tools which you can use to create an archive file from a directory are WinRAR, WinZip or 7Zip (free).
Upload the zip file you created back to your old hoster via FTP or onto a file sharing service like DropBox.
You can now enter the URL to the zip file you created into the Forumatic Import dialog for the Forumatic community you created in the first step. After you confirmed the import, you will see a status message informing you about ongoing progress. Once the import is finished you will be notified by email and the status message turns green.
Your forum is now up and running on Forumatic.
