Yes, I'm sure they are, given air power. No, the solution is something like what was just reached in Idlib. Not ideal but better than war. The one thing I wish people could understand tho is that aside from civilians, there are a lot of jihadis, many not even Syrian.

not a fair analogy. you don't have to support Assad regime to acknowledge that this is a war. this isn't 2011 anymore, with a regime crushing protests. It's a brutal proxy war where, at a certain point, the dominant combatants on the anti-Assad side became AQ & ISIS.

I don’t think they deny it, I think they say there’s insufficient evidence for it (in large part because investigators were never on ground). You might see that as splitting hairs, but I think that’s different than denial.

but the prob here is you & I have different interpretations of their motivations. I happen to know them & think that they have good motives, but does that matter? I think they should be judged on accuracy of their work, to the extent possible. I agree not everything is clear cut.

I've never been to Russia and I changed my views about Syria -- not the 2011 uprising, but the ensuing proxy war -- after doing some reading, like this article by Robert F. Worth. Do you think he's pro-Assad?

They are not pro-Assad. If I had to characterize, it would be anti-proxy war. They don't think foreign countries have the right to launch regime change, even against a dictator, & think efforts to do so have been catastrophic. But the more important q is if their work is accurate

I don't think you can call a doc that notes Assad's war crimes, civilian killings, and torture record "pro-Assad." It's true that its focus is propaganda on the other side of the proxy war, but that doesn't make it pro-Assad.

Dan does work for RT as I noted to Susan. But he started doc well before he worked there (I watched a rough cut of it then). If you claim "Blumenthal is funded by Russia," you should substantiate. If not, consider not spewing falsehoods & letting people judge doc on its content.

It's not Russian-funded and it's not pro-Assad.

2/ I'd also recommend this new doc by for that challenges the dominant media narratives you & Jimmy criticized. Detractors will dismiss it because he works for RT America, but I think it should be judged on its content:

1/ Susan, I agree that the "traitor" comment was worthy of apology but I also think underlying media critique is on point. One important exception is Robert F. Worth, whose NYT article I recommend. IMO, passage below is very apt for the convo you're in:

Today we learned that the State Department's legislative affairs staff is led by a former lobbyist for arms manufacturer Raytheon. This is how the billionaire class profits off of the devastation of Yemen, the poorest country in the Middle East.

Wow, this is pretty Orwellian: Facebook chooses 2 US-government-funded organizations who specialize in overseas propaganda and sometimes regime change to fight "malicious propaganda" Reuters reports without irony or any awareness of who these groups are:

my good friend & great comedian because: a) it's his bday soon b) he's woke & funny c) he's so down on politics that he's thinking of giving up on it which I think would ultimately be good for the Cause, so let's enjoy his jokes but also encourage him to bounce:

It is a sign of cultural insanity that the POTUS does not appreciate and even mocks the social obstacles abused people face in speaking up. This goes beyond Trump: such brazen, willful blindness is the norm rather than the exception.

Mr. Pompeo: human lives are worth far more than defense contractor profits. We must end America's involvement in this disastrous and unconstitutional war. The Senate must also investigate this effort to mislead us.
